This is always something I'm very interested in, but it never seems to get a ton of attention.

I'm really interested in HEARING the new MK. The reveal trailer was completely useless in this department. Reused MK9 sound effects and announcer and licensed music. Sucks

I'm sure we'll get something to chew on at E3 when we see gameplay, but for now let us speculate and list our hopes/fears.

I really wanna hear the new announcer. Since it likely won't be Kahn (Probably Shinnok?) how should he sound? Supa modulated like MK4 - MKvsDC? Like MK9? I'd like a completely new flavor, but NOT hella modulated and pitch shifted. Just a guy with a gritty, sinister voice. Steve Ritchie will always be the best, but I'd love to have a new favorite.

And that music. What's Dan Forden been up to? This is something that's pretty dear to my heart. If anyone followed the MKHD Kommunity Edition over on TRMK before it got shut down by WB, I was the dude making their music tracks. I really hope Dan can make some baddass new tunes. I really didn't care too much for a lot of the more standard orchestral stuff he did in MK9. I'd like to hear more Asian instruments, and his twisted synths to give it that otherworldly feel. MK2 and Shaolin Monks had my favorite music to date. Anything like that would be RAD! I've been disappointed with the Character Select themes for along time now, in particular.

Also, Mick Gordon has done a fantabulous job on the new Killer Instinct. Those guys are my new audio heroes. They really pushed fighting game music into new frontiers and didn't settle for the formula. Hopefully, Forden and his team took a few notes.

What do YOU guys think?

I would be far from surprised if they recycled a ton of audio from MK9, so hearing new audio firsthand will hopefully be more surprising than what I'm expecting.

Hopefully that's the case and they don't recycle much.

I wouldn't be too surprised if they used the MK9 announcer again. MK6-7 used the same recordings, other than the new character names added in 7. Then again, it could easily be only for the trailer, or they could use the same announcer, but with entirely new recordings like MKII-3. It would be great to see Steve Ritchie return, but I read he's got hearing problems now, and could even be deaf by now. I saw some interviews with him 2013 though, and he didn't seem too bad, so maybe he could still do it? If it is a brand new one, I hope they don't stray too far from their comfort zone.

I thought it was cheap that they reused the same audio from the last game.

All I know is they better fix the damn screams or im gonna be pissed. The ones in mk9 were pathetic. We should be cringing hearing ppl scream as brutal as this game is.

I definitely want the over the top death screams to return, no more of this "ow" during a fatality.

Would you mind showing me the tracks you have finished? Also, would you be aware of any independent games in development that need music? I REALLY wanna do some more scoring

I'll post up links to my tunes asap tomorrow. And unfortunately the only games in development needing music are ones Im working on. :/

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you here as well. I think back to the stuff in games like Deception and Shaolin Monks and how the music was memorable. It seems almost as if the Midway-era of games had better music while the NRS-era of games have had more lackluster music. The screams of the characters should sound as if they REALLY hurt. If MKX is really going for a darker, grittier direction, the music and sounds should reflect that and then some. It would be extremely lazy and actually surprising if we have reused themes from MK 2011. By now, NRS would have to have developed new tracks for whichever stages are going to be in this game.

Problem with the music in MK9 was it was so damn quiet. Could barely hear it because the fight itself was louder than the music.

@J-Spit
Here's that list of music I was working on for the shut down TRMK MKHD. Like everything in that game, nothing is 100% finished.

I REALLY hope the new Character Select theme is better than MK9.

I had no problem whatsoever with the audio other than the obvious at launch audio problem, I forgot what was the problem, like something about the audio being too low or something, and you having to dick with the settings in the options....didn't that get fixed in the Komplete Edition?

Anyway, no prob whatsoever...I really don't mind if they kept the same announcer audio. I like the way each Fight, Finish Him and Fatality had a different tone, I hope that comes back.

Does anyone else want that musical cue after the fatalities from MK2 to come back? This bit? http://youtu.be/WvmJKgztQe0?t=7s

I feel like the morbidity of the fatalities needs to be gotten back to.

Thanks, man!

MK2 definitely had the best Fatality theme. Shaolin Monks basically remade it, and was rad.
