Will Liu Kang return as the Akuma of MK?
Well, I think we could see an "Evil Ryu" side to him. I think that in a true reboot of the series' story, Liu Kang could have continued on. But given the direction since MK9, it's really best just to have him stay dead.
I think "Evil Liu" would be oversimplifying it a bit. If he comes back, yeah, I'd hope to get kind of a Jin Kazama vibe off of him, a loner who prefers to stay that way, or uses people to achieve his own aims as someone out to take down the gods themselves. It would be the most interesting he's ever been.
The funny thing about Liu is how he was cast as the main protagonist and just became obsolete when it was realized the series' real draws were Sub-Zero and Scorpion. Killing him off in MKDA is still one of the best directions the series ever took.
Without that role of protagonist forced on him, free to express his own views and not guided by a terrible trope of destiny, he could be more interesting than he has ever been - he already was by the end of MK9. I'm all for him coming back and striking out on his own.
Wouldn't it be a blast if the Shaolin dispatched Kai to take him down?

first off, he could never be akuma or evil ryu. akuma is just an pure demonic fighter who wants a good fight. evil ryu is a guy who has always had a dark side in him that finally took him over.
Liu kang is like neither.
Like the other guy said, he would be turning more into jin and then as the story progressed as, luke sykwalker/darth vader imho.
Kai should return. He is different from any fighter with the whole lone wolf/ enlightment journey that he goes on.
I think that he should be a fighter that mixes multiple fighting styles. like versatile but not a master any one fighting style.(because he trained with several masters over asia) also he his training with liu should show in his fighting style.

Krispy Kang could be the chance to do Liu Kang right.
I mean he basically was the generic good guy untill The Bald & the Beard did him in. Zombie Kang was a fresh to some extent, especially since it was due to Darkden who reanimated him as a weapon.
