I doubt it, I think most of the story will revolve around the new group of mains, changing mains during a story is risky and I don't think Cage's character has the range nor depth to be the main character, he's the funny one, that's his charm as support. Raiden will be the lead for the first part of the story most likely, imo.

I'd like Johnny to be the protagonist for the first portion of the game before he hands his hero occupation over to his daughter after teaching her how to fend for herself.

Would be cool to see Johnny as a powerful warrior with a heart of comic gold and impeccable wisdom

I think we'll have multiple protagonists in much the same way MK9 did. We'll play through multiple characters as we progress through an overarching plot, playing whoever is relevant to the specific arch.

And Johnny is not the "funny" one anymore. Yes, he brings most of the humor to the series, but the comedic role doesn't get slotted with titles like "Raiden's Champion." Johnny Cage isn't Mokap. Johnny Cage has been taken seriously by NRS (or Midway, as it might be more apt to refer to as) since Armageddon, when he took the lead and assembled the Forces of Light.

As one of few protagonists to survive and not require resurrection in MK9, I think it's highly likely that at some point, he will helm a decent portion of the story. Even in MK9, after his chapter was over he was still a constant entity throughout most of the game. Unless he dies at some point, which is possible, though in my opinion unlikely, I suspect he'll play a similar role. We'll see him replace Liu Kang as Raiden's Champion. Whether this process includes Seido or not is yet to be seen, but if it does, I feel confident that NRS will not shove Johnny Cage into some silly role as a comedic entity.

He has more depth than most of the MK cast.
