Liu will probably be a revenant for a good chunk of story mode, and will eventually return to the good side. There may be some friendly competition or hints of that in story mode at some point, but I doubt Liu will be mad about it. If anything he would probably admire Johnny for stepping up to the plate.

Tecnichaly, all Eart realm warrios that fought in the Mortal Kombat torunament are Raiden Champions. Liu Kang is MK champion so in the story they will have diferent roles. Cage maybe will be more like a father leading some missions of the special forces, While Liu kick the asses of the bad guys along side Kung Lao.

To me it seems Liu Kang, Kitana and Kung Lao will only be freed in the middle of the story, for some reason Jax will be freed in the Netherrealm War. If it wasn't for the scene in which we see Raiden alongside them I would even say they would be slaves of Quan Chi for the entire story.

I don't think Liu would be mad at Cage, he could actually admire him like the user above said.

Yeah if Liu becomes good again I don't see there being any kind of problems between him and Johnny, though I can see there being some between Kang and Raiden.

I think Johnny is a better champion, he is a better character and doesn't blame all his problems on Raiden.

I don't know about him being a better champion, per se, because I've always thought it was better that an underdog, simple monk held that kind of title, instead of a Hollywood action star who has the potential to blow the whole realms' masquerade deal, but I do agree with him being a better character overall.

He's more three-dimensional than Kang (which is saying something, considering this is Cage we're talking about). I also like that he seems to be one of a handful of characters who treats Raiden decently at this point (although who knows in the future).

In the Shaolin trailer they showed Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Raiden together at the koves. The stage where the tarkatans are taking shaolin monks to a boat. Both Liu Kang and Kung Lao will be fighting along side Raiden. I think Raiden got the Elder Gods to revive certain fallen EARTHREALM warriors. As Raiden said in the trailer, Liu Kang and Kung Lao were like sons to him. They would be the first two to be revive on his list.
