So at this point everything we take from the trailer is speculation.. its been verified there will be recurring characters as well as new ones and that they will have different variations.. That gets me excited..

What doesn't get me excited, and I know there will be plenty of people who disagree, is the potential return of stage weapons and interactive environments. I feel as though they are just gimmicks.. The first 3 games proved they didn't need to exist to be popular...and MK9 proved that we still don't need them to be a great game...

To me a great Mortal Kombat would have these things:

1) Great Characters

2) Great Fatalities

3) Improved Graphics

4) Surprises / Hidden secrets

5) Mortal Kombat style fighting. Don't try and copy Tekken/Street Fighter/ Injustice

6) And most importantly tell a GREAT story.. This is Key!!

I would take allll of these over interactive backgrounds as well as a weapon based fighting system...

Again, weapons and interactive backgrounds are speculation based on the trailer but I wanted to see other peoples opinions..

If they can be implemented while including everything you mentioned, then I'm okay with it.

Agreed. Injustice did a great job of melding fast-paced, inherently interesting gameplay with a lot of cool interactive elements, so I'm not too worried about those features this time around.

My preference would still remain to leave some of the more whimsical elements optional for high-level play.

Injustice had a gimmick
Even MK9 had a gimmick

There's going to be a gimmick. And we're most likely not going to want it, but it's going to be there. We are in the days of "lets put something to give the kiddies a chance to win" in fighting games. It's sad.

I wasn't a fan of the X-Ray because it kind of suck that you beat on somebody only for them to damn near make a comeback with the press of two buttons. As much as I like fairness, but it's almost like a lot of work for nothing.
I still believe that in order to achieve an X-Ray, it must be done in a combo after you get the meter. This will lead newcomers to learn more about the game's mechanics. "Wait, if I can do a two hit attack into a X-Ray, what if I did more attacks into a X-Ray?"

But...whatever >_>

I agree that the X-Ray was a bit of an unfair aspect of gameplay.. Especially when a Boss like Kintaro or Shao Kahn used it and took half your life away... however I don't know if I would consider it a gimmick.. It was a Special Move and I enjoyed it as sort of a mid-fight fatality.. I also agree that if it is back it should be slightly harder to achieve.

Yes Every game has some sort of "new thing" but the weapons and interactive environments have come and gone, and once they were gone I think we had our best MK game since MK2...
