Actually, all Liu Variations are sick, Belive me, in terms of gameplay Liu Kang has the tools like to stand a chance against all the roster showed so far.

DRAGON ́S FIRE: The most zooning Liu Ever, but even then his Bycicle kick leaves you standing in front of him. Guess who can give the first hit! Sooo you can pull a 40%damage combo, end with a bycicle Kick and do a reset?? Wayy too sick. Then even if you block it, his Dragon ́s Roar punch, is SAFE ON BLOCK, and he has de FASTEST punch in the game, Soo resets, frame traps cheap damage and in this variation, a 21 damage fireball that is not breakable??? Maybe is too much.

FLAME FIST: doesn ́t care it you are good enough to block his mix ups, it will make a lot of cheap damage, and if you dont block it, it will make more damage!! and if you try to outrushh him, he can parry you!! The most rushhdown Liu ever!!

Blade4693 Wrote:
I dig him in this game for the most part, but like I have said in other threads im not a fan of how his dark fire balls in the dualist variation work, I wish they would detonate on impact, like have them still be delayed if they aren't touched, but if you shoot it and your opponent doesn't dodge it, it detonates. I hate how you can fire it and they can literally walk right through it lol it sucks because that dark red fire ball looks so sick!

DUALIST: I felt the same about Liu ́s Red fireballs. But then i realized. Those things do too much damage, and can be used in a Standing combo!! Red fireballs maybe be more usefull as combo extenders than for zooning. If you hit 1, 2 hits you can throw the fireball, stop it rigthe there, and you dont loose the combo (watch the stream at 43:28) , so you keep going on and the combo keeps counting until the fireball explotes That without mentioning that the red fireballs can be charged to explote at the same time you stop them and doing damage. So this actualli is meant to be used in the middle of the combo, only the Light fireballs are really meant for zonning in this variation. combine that with metter burn bycicle kick and you have two pop ups more added to the normal Liu Kang jungle combos while using his Dark form. That without mentioning that here You can heal yourself after thorwing your oponen across the screen.

Liu Kang is going to be one of the top players in the game. And actually im going to have a good time mastering all his variations

Those do look pretty badass. Dualist is the only variation I was taken back by, but not necessarily in a bad way. I just feel like that one will take the most devotion of the three to learn. Button commands on switching between light and dark, and timing seems to be key with those dark fireball explosions.

I'm all about them flashy combos anyway, so stuff like that, is where I'm at. ;D

Yeah I doubt its one I will use a whole bunch, but I just love how those projectiles look lol kind of wish they were regular projectiles and the weird little light balls could be the trap balls or w.e we are going to call them lol

Dantesd94: Yeah I foresee Liu being a problem in this game (In a good way) lol I just wish they would change the two, like make the light balls the delayed trap balls, and have the super awesome red ones be regular projectiles haha

Liu Kang is the only character I genuinely dislike. My opinion has not changed. He seems to be the same except he's now a "GRR! I'M ANGRY!! BLARGH!!" type character now.

In terms of gameplay nothing jumped out to me. He still seems to occupy that newbie character role that people unfamiliar with the game can pick him and have fun. Accessible, but over time you'll just outgrow him once you discover there's more to a fighting game other than throwing fireballs and screaming "waaaataaaaaah!" all the time.

Soo once you discover that Frame traps, resets and mix ups exist in a fighting game you will still stick to Liu Kang??

Liu Kang has always meant to be the most accesible Mk character. But in this game, he seems Like one of the deepest characters to master in his full potential.
I thought Liu's moveset seemed to be the most impressive and fun of all the ones that we've seen so far.

Liu Kang gameplay feltt much better than in MK9, almost as fast as the first time we saw Kung Lao gameplay for MK9.

The Flame Fist variation is going to be a huge pain to deal with as you aren't safe just by blocking and being patient, you have to completly avoid getting touched by him.

utter waste, hes worthless, and its been proven yet again....should have stayed dead...I cannot believe how worthless and pointless he is....I dont get the reasoning behind 3 shit variations based on shit moves....were forced into this game but the endless possibility with baraka have been overlooked for the shitty stereo typical wailing fuck wit....I mean we had KL...Again why kill hem just to rehash the mk9 cast?

Really? Are we talking about generic tarkata Baraka and endless possibility of variations on the same phrase? I'm not a fan of Liu Kang, but if the best example of what we're losing because of his inclusion is Baraka...

The best variation I could think for Baraka would be being the thing on Erron Black's back, even that unknown deceased tarkata is used on a more creative way and feels less generic than Baraka... seriously the guy felt like the blandest tarkata shown in his own MK9 ending! Every other tarkata looked like they could be much more interesting than him and we only saw a single image of them.

I'd take any Tarkata on that image over generic Baraka.

I agree with Dantesd94 100%. Being a huge fan of the mortal Kombat champion, it's great to see my favorite character done so much justice from what I can tell.

Dragon's Fire is what I'll probably use the most. I just love the double enhanced fireballs in this one! You can also enhance the bicycle kick in this variation which is going to make for wicked pop-ups! The face paint was a little offsetting, but it's something I've already gotten used to after watching his gameplay so many times.

Flaming Fist is a variation I'll also be using a lot, though I hate how they took away the bicycle kick in this onesad. The extra damage is going to come in handy and that motherfucking parry doe!!! I also love how all the fireball animations are different in each variation. Just goes to show you how much attention they've put in the game.

Dualist isn't a bad variation. It just seems like something that'll be good for the masters of juggling which is something I am not. Depending on exactly how you charge your damage and health will decide how much I truly use this variation. Though I will say that this variation does look like it could be the most lethal.

Overall Liu Kang looks fucking sick! Always has always will IMO. His X-Ray is awesome, and his fatality (meh). But they've never really done anything to grousome with Kang's fatalities anyway. Can't wait to get my hands on this guy! He deserves to be in any MK game as much as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, or Raiden. He is the CHAMP!!!

I hope that they explain his Dualist variation in the story mode. Like maybe he absorbed the jinsei while still in revenant form or something. I don't want it to be "something we came up with just becuz he needed a 3rd variation"

The "Light" part of that variation could've been used on someone like Ashrah, or a completely new character. And the Dark Red aspects could've been used on someone like Daegon.

So I guess as long as it's story-relevant, I'm happy with it.

Now that Flame-Fist variation... Yikes!

You obviously love coming here so much that Mick and the crew reopened it just for you :p

Anyways, Liu Kang looks pretty cool. I'm not a huge fan of his primary costume (it's the hair) and I'll probably be either playing as his young skin (the MK9 alt variation) or his classic skin that I plan on purchasing for DLC. Although his NetherRealm skin is growing on me as well.

However, I think he looks cool in other aspects. His variations do all feel pretty unique honestly. I love his ability to charge his fireballs and replacing his bicycle kick with a windmill punch in one variation is a neat idea.

The dark/light variation looks insane, and I can't wait to experiment with that. It seems to be one of the bigger move-changing variations out of any character (not quite Kitana's mournful variation, but up there). The healing is interesting and the red fireball looks awesome. I wonder if the lightness variation is story influenced (you could see him using the dark fireball in a story cut scene). I'm curious to see if he somehow reaches enlightenment to learn to harness the light energy.

Oh Lord...

Sub-zero uses ice for all his variations. Is HE worthy of returning?
Ermac?
Scorpion?

I'm so sick of people complaining about this roster. I really like it, as I like the human (actually mortal) characters. Just because the roster doesn't suit you, it doesn't mean the roster sucks or characters are unworthy. Stop being such celf centered, entitled, spoiled children.

Oh, sweetie. Check my visits. I am far from a spammer.

M'poligies for being reactionary. I saw the title and got annoyed. People are being so negative, it's getting exhausting. You're certainly free to have your opinions. I have also been attacked and constantly asked to defend things such as wanting Tanya in the game, being excited about the returning humans, etc. That's what I saw this thread as. I'm just in a pissy mood today. Don't mind me.

My opinion on Liu Kang and his gameplay? I think you should stay positive and keep an open mind. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you play as him. I think he's never been better!

Better?

You've got a good point and that is all good stuff, most of it that didn't really occur to me before. That said, I used to be a big fan of Liu when I started playing MK but slowly lost interest. Upon seeing the trailer I thought more or less the same things about Liu as WeaponTheory. After reading your post I am much more optimistic, but even with all of that stuff, his gameplay does seem boring to me.

You brought up points about what he has to work with, but I don't think the variations will take much mastering other than Dualist. This does make sense, considering he is seemingly supposed to be a character that is easy to pick up. With that said, I don't think he should be one of the top players in the game unless it is his Dualist variation. In my opinion, the best characters should take more skill to master.

Of course I know we don't actually have the game in our hands yet, so a lot of this stuff we don't know for sure. Even some of the stuff in the streams can be changed, so there may be a lot more depth to Liu's variations than I can see.

Worthy to be returning? I'm on the fence about that one. It looks like there are other easy to pick up characters such as Takeda, so I definitely don't think it was necessary to have Liu. Still I am not surprised or unhappy with his returning, he does look better and have more depth than any of the other MK games I can think of.
