I believe future games should keep character personalities and feuds in mind when it comes to intros and fatalities.

What I mean is, whenever two characters connected to one another fight each other, there should be a different kind of intro acknowledging said connections, such as Liu Kang accusing Raiden of incompetence as Earth's protector, for instance. Same for fatalities. When Baraka finishes Jax, in reference to his encounter and defeat at the latter's hands in MK9's story mode, Baraka could choose to apply his fatalities differently, by making Jax suffer much more than say, Li Mei, whom he's never interacted with in the storyline so far.

Basically, there should be three types of intros: general ones, personal ones and special ones.

The general ones are pretty much what we had in MK9, where feuds and connections were ignored. They should remain, as it was amusing to see Liu Kang act like Shao Kahn didn't just kill his best friend prior to their fight.

The personal ones are what I've already described in the second paragraph. The special ones would be for fun. They could involve two characters that aren't canonically related to one another, such as Johnny talking on a cellphone (or him complaining that he's getting no signal in a Outworld-based stage), followed by Scorpion's MK9 intro and his revenge quote, concluded by Johnny asking him " Huh? who are you?" and Scorpion roaring in anger.

Same for fatalities (and maybe other -alities too). When Smoke is killing Sub-Zero, he could do it the general way (treating Sub-Zero just like any other opponent) or the special way, in which his fatalities do not change, but instead of posing for his victory afterwards, Smoke has an emotional breakdown, like he was being possessed and was forced to do it against his will. Or he could say something trollish like "Ha! Smoke beats ice! Ha ha ha!".

And this is it for now. If there is enough interest I might share some more ideas of mine for this thread. Feel free to post your own.

Not a bad idea. But if the next game (MK10) is going on with the story and covering more than one game, then a lot of changes in intros would happen each new fight. I know it's not much of a deal to do it but i would rather start by having a feature which would make each character fight their Nemesis/Enemy at some point. So the different intro/phrase used by the characters would be clearer and easier to pinpoint.

I like those ideas alot! I think that anything that adds a personal touch to battles, and help tell a story through the fighting is cool with me.

I'd still like to see certain things spoken during matches, especially when it's two opponents that hate one another or have story issues etc.

Maybe small story elements / realizations could come out during battle? This might be something for the story mode only, but these types of things could actually stop matches.

But for the most part, it'd just be nice to hear more personalized talking during a match, referencing things that were uncovered in the story mode. You couple that with personalized trash talk before matches, personalized fatalities (probably not the fatality animation iteself, but before the fatality, as the OP stated) and those could make for some pretty epic battles.

Great ideas DG1OA!

Thanks.

I was going to suggest another kind of intro but you already did it for me, Baraka407: trash talk. It'd involve the characters dissing one another. Fighters who have no connections could still insult one another. Shao Kahn should have different insults for every opponents, along with his general taunts such as "You weak, pathetic fool".

Mirror matches could definitely use their own type of intros.

Another idea that just occured to me is dialogue during fights. Inspired by Street Fighter IV's rival matches, though the characters wouldn't need to be related. Let's say a player is spamming one move in particular, the AI/other's character could mock him/her for the dull and repetitive "tactic".

Now, some more ideas relating to this topic.

Sonya vs Jax: When Sonya kills Jax, the fatality is followed by Sonya saying "That's for stealing my spotlight, jackass".

Special intro featuring Scorpion and Quan Chi: Scorpion trying repeatedly to hurt Quan Chi with the latter always teleporting away. Just before the fight starts Scorpion roars, and Quan Chi, smirking, replies, in his deep, gravely voice, "Beep Beep". That's not censorship, for your information.

Stryker vs any characters with fire-related abilities: Stryker tries to light a cigarette with a lighter, but it's out of fluid (Crap, he'd say). Right after the opponent makes his/her entrance, Stryker asks them if they could light it. Some of them could throw a fireball at him (or try to flat out roast him in the cases of Scorpion, Sektor and No-Face, if he returned), Stryker would dodge with the cig in his mouth, nontheless close enough to the projectile/flames for his cigarette to be lit. The intro would conclude with Stryker thanking the opponent. When fighting Liu Kang (or maybe any of the other heroes), Stryker would be lectured about the dangers of smoking.

Love the idea. I was actually disappointed that this last MK didn't have special intros for when certain characters fought. I mean Tekken and other fighting series do that so I don't know NRS didn't include it.

You know something MKVDCU had that MK9 lacked? Stage intros, but it sadly had no individual ones for the characters (among other things). Amusingly though, MK9 was the opposite. It had character intros, but none for the stages. So there is no reason we couldn't have both in future games. To further enrich the game, stage intros could sometimes be affected by the characters.

Here's an old idea of mine (I once posted a thread dedicated to it): Individual stage fatalities. The characters using a stage fatality in ways specific to them. Baraka's subway fatality (or one of them, no reason characters couldn't have more than one) for instance could see him impale his opponents, lift them, rub them against the train when it passes, slice up their faces with one of his blades, kick them off the other and into the rails, and finally jump down to plunge one of his blades in the opponent's torso, delivering the coup de grace.

Certain characters, such as Motaro, Baraka (and any new Centaurs/Tarkatans should there ever be any) the Shokan, and the cyborgs should die differently during some fatalities. One example is that cyborgs should have no heart for Kano to rip. And again, how one character kills Motaro like say Moloch, should differ from how another such as Motaro himself would kill his double in a mirror match.

There is so much potential for ideas, in my case I have too many for only one post. You could take the individual stage fatalities concept further and have personal ones for feuds, comical ones, etc.
