This game borrows a lot of those two
The variations system was used in Samurai Spirits 3 and 4. At that time it was called Slash and Bust, only two, but it changed the character, like Nakoruru using a Wolf and a Eagle.
Also the Brutalities just remembers the Ultimate Combo from KI.
Any more references?

The Street Fighter Alpha series also used a 3 variations system.
King Of Fighters:Maximum Impact had specific characters intro (talking with each other) too.

Yes its true but I am talking about the Ultimate Combo from Killert Instinct
Character start a combo when opponent has low health and it interrupts to make a special fatality.
MKX is much better of course.

That game is Samurai spirits/shodown 64 on the Hyper NEO GEO 64. You see that X ray effect when you break bones with Hanzo. The game also had cancels. yeah SS64 was quite advanced for its time. Game's fuking sweet tho, still play it.
