This game borrows a lot of those two

The variations system was used in Samurai Spirits 3 and 4. At that time it was called Slash and Bust, only two, but it changed the character, like Nakoruru using a Wolf and a Eagle.

Also the Brutalities just remembers the Ultimate Combo from KI.

Any more references?

There was a Samurai Spirits game that had X Ray Attacks, you can throw in the mix that Darkstalkers introduced EX Moves.

Brutalities were prevalent since UMK3?
The Street Fighter Alpha series also used a 3 variations system.

King Of Fighters:Maximum Impact had specific characters intro (talking with each other) too.

Yes its true but I am talking about the Ultimate Combo from Killert Instinct

Character start a combo when opponent has low health and it interrupts to make a special fatality.

MKX is much better of course.

Nah, Boon mentioned in an interview that they were mainly inspired by Street Fighter Alpha 3.
