MK9 ended with Shinnok in a good position to start his conquest spree. It was also revealed that Shinnok planned out the events of MK9.

And yet, Ed Boon said that there will be a "fun, surprise returning character" for the boss of MKX. Ruling out Shinnok.

So what's going to happen with Shinnok? Will the Netherrealm invasion be a red herring that is stopped before Cassie becomes old enough to be playable? Will Shinnok be a playable character with his own ending, alternate costume, etc., who happens to be a boss?
How can anyone on the site know this info? Boon could still be fooling everyone by throwing them off of Shinnok, but I think he'll be a boss at some point of the story. Who knows who the ladder boss will be, or the final boss of the story. Literally no one knows on here.

Yeah Boon seems to imply the final boss will be somebody nobody expects. And Shinnok is the most obvious choice of who the next big bad will be. But Boon could be just tricking everyone by throwing everyone off Shinnok's trail when it really IS Shinnok. Who knows?

In the event Shinnok isn't the main boss, I suspect he'll be the first boss to fight like Shang in MK9. As long as he's a tough boss and playable I'm a happy guy.

That's exactly how I see it. Shinnok being the final boss would be uneventful IMO.

It's funny that people didn't like Shinnok as a boss in MK4 because he was playable so he didn't have that brokenness that unplayable bosses have, therefore not making him a fun boss, and ultimately a lackluster character. And yet they obviously won't make Shinnok a final boss and once again make him playable, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as they give him some justice.

Preferably I'd like to see Quan Chi's MK4 ending unfold except Shinnok being the one outsmarting Quan Chi when Quan thinks he's the one outsmarting him. Having someone best Quan at his own trickery would be a fun way to kill him off.

As long as Shinnok is around for a majority of the story and not gone by the time the 1st MK tournament passed in MK9 I think he'll be handled well.

I wouldn't be surprised if Quan Chi turns out to have the real amulet and is the real boss of MKX. It would make sense and could lead to Quan Chi's death in this game by either Scorpion or Sub-Zero. It sure is time for him to die.

Though, I'm not really in favor of this as he would make for an anticlimactic boss

He could end up as a sub-boss like Shang. Shang was playable but as a boss he had the ability to morph into a bunch of characters, he had armor and he took less damage. So if Shinnok gets a similar treatment it could definitely work.

I don't really care that much for Shinnok, or he must be revampt like 100%...

Also there are (probably) only 6 characters from after-MK3 in the game, Shinnok would spoil a spot for characters that need it more.

As long as Shinnok is playable (and let's not kid ourselves, he will be; there's no way he's not in MKX), then that's really all I care about. I fucking miss Shinnok.

Shinnok is cool. Don't care if he is playable or not just want him in a huge part of the story. And if 6 are playable we can still have: fujin, Tanya, reiko, havik, MAybe Kai, and Bo. Idk if Kenshi counts since he was in mk9

I really hope Shinnok and Quan Chi are heavily involved in the storyline. MK4 was probably my favorite MK (pre-MK9). I'd prefer it if Shinnok was NOT playable tho. I feel he gets more "boss status" that way. I hope he's the main boss but I'd be ok with him being just a sub-boss too. If Shinnok is in, I want him to have his force field and eye lazers back from MK mythologies. I also like Quan Chi's telekinetic "Get over here" move! Here's a Link if anyone doesnt know what Im talking about.

Shinnok won't even be in the game, calling it now.

The opening movie is a recap of the events of MK4 and he dies in the introduction cinematic somehow.

On facebook there are new rumors that Kotal Kahn has nothing to do with Shao Kahn, but he does have something to do with Shinnok.

Dunno if it's true or a lie tho... we'll find out.

I would like Shinnok to be the final boss only if they give him the shang tsung,Shao khan treatment.

What shinnok needs is his own set of moves. He had none in mk4 only stealing his opponents moves by doing a stupid button combination. I want him to be a powerful bad guy in this game. Haiil lord shinnok!

As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about.

I kinda like this idea. However, I think that he should be the 2nd boss, but not the actually Final Boss. I hope the actually touch on the Deadly Alliance because out of all the post MK3 stuff, i thoroughly enjoyed the DA story arc. My guess is Evil Raiden is somehow the Final Boss.

Whatever they do with Shinnok, please don't let him be as stupid as in MK4 with the steal-moves stuff.

I want Shinnok to have the skeleton hands in his moves like in Armageddon.

I think Shinnok will be the Boss Arcade Mode and this revelation does not contradict that. How?

Shinnok would be only one boss act in Story Mode and not the final Act and the Chief Final Act would be a Secret Chief or Head of a Secret Arcade Mode which could be opened by winning the Tower of Challenges and presents an alternate ending to each character, so each character would have two endings, one for each final boss of Arcade Mode. In this case the Choose Your Fate Would.

I agree with this. I think Shinnok kinda has to be included as a Boss at some point in the story, since he was revealed to have had a big role in the events of MK9... If he isn't a boss at some point of the story, then I guess he'll just have to be mentioned. It only makes sense.
