big thanks to flameshang for the sig.
One thing I have to say:
IT HAS BEGUN!!
but Hmmmm.. I hope he's not Shinnok. I really like the way the actor at the end of MK 2011 portrayed him. Sounded really strange and different.
I doubt they'd alter his voice to sound like Shinnok that much if they hired a top notch actor like him so hopefully he's an elder god or some other god narrating the story mode or something like that.
I hope classic fatalities are back this time and a huge roster
I LOVE THIS TIME BEFORE A GAME.
hey
And if he's voicing a character then that character will instantly become Grade A badass. It might actually be good for not-so-loved characters like Reiko or Jarek, because it will help add to their personalities. Or it could make a character like Shinnok or Fujin even more cool!
I know that 24 is a favorite show of Ed Boon's, and he probably would be excited that it's coming back, but it seems way too soon for him to be making references to it on twitter, and that doesn't say anything about the other Kiefer Sutherland references he made.
Of course there's a chance that Kiefer Sutherland got the name of the game wrong and now Ed Boon is just playing along with the rumors, but that would totally suck. I really want this to be true, and if it's not, then in the words of Jack Bauer, "DAMN IT!"

AND I HAVE PROOF
in all Reiko's endings he takes Shao Kahns HELMET. THEY ONLY THING THAT WAS LEFT BEHIND WITH HIS DEFEAT!!!!!
so Reiko will have a very large part getting a power boost from the helmet, perhaps being a good guy even. ALSO he will be Kiefer Sutherland.
-Narrator
-Announcer
-Bi-Han
-Raiden
-Fujin
-Reiko
Assumptions I am making about a possible next MK game:
-A follow-up in canon to MK 2011.
-Shinnok will be a major presence
-This game (I hope) will focus largely on Shinnok's invasion, to avoid becoming MKD/MKA level of bigger/badder/world-ending.
-Bi-Han has a huge history with Shinnok and Quan Chi. That would be a day-1 assumption for important interactions which is why I included Bi-Han as a possible voice. I do feel that it is very unlikely.
I believe NRS made MK9 with continuity in mind. They know that there would be a huge fan expectation for the MK4 crew (maybe not Jarek) and that room on the roster would need to be made. I believe that's why so many died in MK9.
Anyways. When I heard the Kiefer news, I immediately began to wonder. A VO of his level would really push the possibility of a strong narrative and A lot of dialogue. This is why I believe he would be Raiden or Fujin, if it was a character and not the narrator/announcer. When we take all that (and a few other things I don't feel like typing out), it really leads me to believe that a possible next MK might just be an action/adventure game that also continues it's story...
I am actually kind of hoping for that, to be honest. Either way. I am on board.

Same thoughts occurred to me. I like that so many died in MK9, this will give NRS the opportunity to really establish some of the MK4 characters (they could do good things with Jarek, I'm sure), and bring in some new ones too. Much as I love some of the classic characters, I'd love to see new things as well.
I'm told that MK9 is on sale for Xbox 360 at an amazing price! Download it now and Kick some Keifer Ass !!

So, could it be, that he is voicing character, that was present in MK9?

Give it a couple months (maybe even weeks), and we'll see who he's voicing. Hope the sequel has more character development and emotions.
I look forward to the lead-up to the game, more than the game itself. It's just such a fun time to speculate and discuss every bit of news as it comes, with the same people year-to-year.
Can't wait. I could certainly see him playing the voice of either Shinnok or Kenshi.
They could of course "retcon" the voice of Shinnok or Scorpion but I'm not sure they'd want to change established stuff all this soon, would they?
Kung Lao/Smoke main. Maker of puns and bad jokes.

So... Injustice might have an MK crossover then?
The Kiefer character may not hold importance in the story mode of MK11, unless Jack Bauer's been contracted for that game as well. So whoever he is, he may not return in MKX's sequel. Bam Margera has directed a music video after the movie Bam's a fan of, the Lost Boys, for the gothic rock band, the 69 Eyes, by the way (for fans of the film in discussion.)
Shinnok, Fujin, Reiko or Tremor.
I wouldn't put all of my money (some of of it, not all) on Shinnok. Is Shang Tsung a low level character in MKX? What about Kano? The plot of MKX could bring these characters to any direction, we simply don't know yet. Should Kiefer be Reiko or such, he would become a high level guy. He could be the anti-hero and a part-time ally of Raiden to slay Shinnok.

Kiefer doing Kano? Ain't going to happen. Why would they already have a voice actor that established Kano's voice from 2 games and replace him? Makes no sense at all. Same thing with Shang Tsung.
Now for Shinnok it does make sense. His VA was never set in stone. He had a few lines of dialogue with an effect accompanying the voice, completely replaceable. Sutherland is not the kind of guy you hire for VO for doing small parts. Whatever he's doing, it's a significant part.

I didn't even suggest that Kiefer would be doing Kano or Shang Tsung. I brought them as examples of how "low level" and "high level" are defined: e.g. Kano could be a low level character in MKX, but he could also be a relatively high level character. Nothing in Mortal Kombat is set in stone. Still, NetherRealm would probably rather have MKX in line with MK9 as much as possible (not to say that retcons won't happen.) Reiko would definitely be a high level character if he were to lead Outworld de facto.
