Capcom.

Nothing too complicated about it.

Im no SF fanboy. Fact I believe SF as a whole is boring as all hell however I believe Capcom would put together a beautiful fighter for MK.

You have two avenues you could go with MK if Capcom purchased the rights to it.

1. Keep it as its own standalone series as it has been. No changes.

2. MK vs SF/Capcom

The only problem I see with that is the purists/fanboys on both sides would not want anything changed from their respective series. MK fans would want blood and violent fatalities and nothing cartoonish that SF is often associated with. SF fanboys vice versa.

However if both sides compromised. That would be one hell of an epic game long overdue. The battle of the 90s fighting series.

With that said, it'll probably turn into a nitpick/bitchfest much like MK/DC was.

Not really, you got Blizzard, Unbisoft... and a hell of a lot more game companies that are suitable for a pick off.

Yeah, while Capcom could theoretically create a cool 2D/3D MK game, there are plenty of other companies that could handle a solid MK game.

Want a great 3D fighting game? How about Namco? They probably don't need another fighting franchise in their portfolio, but there's a company that knows how to make a good fighting engine and do so with graphical quality to spare.

How about a company that knows how to promote it's games? Electronic Arts? I know they're the evil empire and they've ruined video game football or whatever people seem to think about them, but they don't have a fighting franchise in their portfolio that I know of and they have several teams that make quality games including new IPs like Dead Space.

Perhaps a company that LOVES annual franchises? That would be Actiblizzard. They know how to do big budget games and they know how to make a release date. If you want a company that isn't in any danger of folding any time soon and putting the series in a state of flux once more, Activision/Blizzard is the way to go.

Violence? Grim settings? Fantastic graphics? All of that sounds like a job for Epic. Who knows if Cliffy B likes MK, but to me, that would be a rather solid match. Sure, the story would probably stink, but at least the graphics and gameplay would be solid.

This last one might be a stretch, but if you want a company that can make fantastic stories, Silicon Knights might not be a bad way to go. From Blood Omen to Eternal Darkness, Silicon Knights has done a fantastic job of telling a great story. Their voice acting is top notch and their gameplay is also solid. No, they don't have a fighting game on their resume and I know that Too Human tanked, but their talent and skill for crafting a game can't be graded on one game that was plagued by development problems from the get go.

That's just a few suggestions, but there are plenty of teams out there that I think could do a solid job with the MK series. I know that MK fans want to see the MK team work on this series forever, but I'll be honest, the last few games haven't exactly screamed "only this amazing collection of programmers and gaming talent can do this series."

Of course instead of selling the rights to mk outright they could just lend out the license to Capcom and let them make SF vs MK the way they want in exchange for a cut of the profits.

Blizzard should never take up mortal kombat!! They would just make some silly teen rated game.
Rare should pick up the game, they made killer instinct, that is the only other fighting game i have seen with the same brutality as mortal kombat.

I like the idea of Epic Games collaborating on a Mortal Kombat title, it sounds interesting after playing both Gears of War games.

If the company can return the game to its roots in being a 2-D fighter I think that would catch fan attention in possibly having another company handle Mortal Kombat outside of Midway.
