I reckon he would have been partially restored by the Netherealm ( he will have cool battle scars or something) but his mind will be full of hatred and vengeance towards Raiden. Blinded by the rage he will be an shadow of his former self. Kinda like Dark Raiden: fighting for earth realm but on his own not wanting help from anyone

I think Liu did die, but the ending was somewhat ambiguous given that we didn't see much of him. Like some people have said, coma is a possibility, and even if he did, half the others are returning so he can too (for whatever reason).

I think we should all blame Dark Raiden for sending his past self such a stupidly cryptic message. If I was talking to my past self, I'd say, ''Don't quit college halfway through the final year, you retard.'' At least then there's no ambiguity.
What if your past self interprets that as not even going to college?

But if a magic hammer is coming down on your head then you would probably only get out the words, "don't quit." Which would end up very ambiguous and confusing.
"He must win" should've been "Kahn must merge". That or "he must win" should've been a clear message showing that Kahn needed to merge but someone like Shinnok's magic interfered with it so they could take advantage of Earthrealm's weakened state after MK3.

Then again I'm not a writer so that's probably stupid for other reasons.
