I love Sonya, and I really liked that pic, but my answer is NO.

It would just be ridiculous! She is the only chosen female warrior to represent earth in MK, a tough military chick who works for the Outworld Investigation Special Forces Agency ...why on earth would she go out to battle in her bikini or swimsuit?

Besides, we already have all the female Edenians who dress exactly like that, why do that to Sonya? Keep her sexy and decent, dont lower her to ridiculous half naked outfits that make no sense for her character.

I think Sonya looks her best in MKDA-MKD. I love the tough sexy look they gave her. And her costumes in that game rock.

I don't know, Sonya is getting old you know. Perhaps something like her military costum from MKDA. That one was pretty good. Now the bikini thing would make a pretty good alternate costum.

Um....NO!!!! Sonya is one of the few female characters that doesnt have to fight in a bikini-like wearing outfit. She has been mostly clothed and she is still appealing to many players without having to show off every inch of her body just to appeal to an audience. Why change it now??? I'm myself am a female fan of fighting games in general and I'm all for having more females in fighting games, but c'mon why is it that all the female characters have to be almost naked to the point that its getting old itself??? Why should Sonya have to be put into that category of scantilly clad women fighters in video games when she doesnt have to be? She is perfectly fine the way she is and its nice to know that not all of the female characters arent wearing lingerie.

Hopefully they'll remodel her head, if she's in Armageddon.

I think that if the MK team really tried they could find a way to make Sonya look sexy without having to show skin. Then again, I'm talking about polygons here sooo... I guess I don't need them to look sexy at all. I'd be happy if they just brought her back with a new look that made here look better than recent past incarnations. I didn't mind her MK:DA look, but she looked kinda silly in MK3 and MK4.

MK characters getting old? They only age when the MK team decides to make them age. You don't see Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, Kitana, etc etc etc aging. Only Sub-Zero really, and only because of the amulet.

I'm probably the only male who has ever said this, but the women in MK really need to wear more clothes. Like, whoever thought that the girls could fight in bikinis was drastically mistaken, you cannot fight in that kind of gear. For a start, if you jump then you'll pop out of your clothes. Plus, there is no protection for your skin at all, and even when fist-fighting you want as much protection as possible.

As for Sonya, she IS sexy, she's really sexy. She's always been about kicking arse and taking names. When Shang Tsung said to her Special Forces team "the best fighter of you will take part in the tournament" she stepped forward, because she knew she was the best there. She's confident and strong-willed, as well as being a talented fighter. Contrary to what some people think, clothes do not maketh the man, and they certainly do not maketh the woman. Mileena and Sonya would both still be sexy wearing potato sacks.

Personally I liked how she looked in MKDA. She actually looked like she could kick arse like she is supposed to. I disliked the blond hair (since it should be brown) and the fact that you could see her stomach, but at least she had abs. She wasn't butch by any stretch of the imagination, she was in character. The fact that she was once played by a Playboy model is out of character. She looked awful in Shaolin Monks, for one she was too much of a waif, and secondly she had that belly-button piercing. When in her military career would she have gotten that exactly? Between boot camp and the Special Forces? Or when she was street-fighting and staying out past curfew during High School? Her personality doesn't reflect a piercing of any kind.

No, you aren’t the only male who says woman need more cloth, lol. I honestly don’t care about that detail with SOME females, because they look good, for example, Mileena and Sheeva look excellent with little cloth, for some reason I feel it fits their characters, but there are others like Kitana and Sindel who should look more royal and decent, not slutty. Nitara, Li Mei and Jade…I feel they can get away with little cloth, but would also look good with more, specially Nitara, vampires shouldn’t all be portrayed as sex symbols.

The good thing about this little cloth half naked outfits is that they look good, well designed, yes, it looks stupid on some females, but still, they look “prettyâ€?. I would hate to see Sonya half naked (depending on the outfit too), it just wouldn’t fit her tough chick character, same with Frost (primary costume) and Ashrah (primary costume), though they have shown skin, they look a lot better with cloth on instead of swimsuits.

On a side note, Sonya has always been blond, ever since Mk1, she never had dark brown hair, if it looked brown, it was very light/honey like. Im glad she is the blond chick of Mk. As for the piercing, I understand your points and I kind of agree, but I must admit I love how it looks on Sonya, I hope they keep it for the next game. Excellent post Weskerian!



Actually, Sonya is by far the only female who hasn’t shown any skin in any game (expect her waist/stomach of course, but that looks decent). And yes, characters never get old, and its better like that, if the game was based on 100% realistic details, well…you can just imagine.

I loved reading your post T, and I 100% agree with you. Sonya must stay with her pants on, she looks decent and tough, so far like the only woman who you can take seriously (besides Mileena of course...those teeth…).

Here's a slightly more inane, spam-like post, but in Sonya's original MK bio it was said that she had brown hair. I am aware that was ret-conned to heck in the same damn game, and then in every game since, but the fact remains that her hair is, in the original canon, brown. Still, I suppose I should be happy that she is blonde and not a complete ditz, what with me being blond as well. *shrugs* She is a good representative for those of us of a blond-esque nature with half a bit of common sense and intelligence.

The fact of the matter is that after three MK games, they finally got her looking like a soldier. Then they go into MKSM and change that, and I honestly don't know why. Is it really necessary to sacrifice legitimately tough female characters for the sake of dubious sex appeal, particularly when so many of the girls are already scantily clad? Its not even the outfits either, just why do they all have to be toothpicks and act like weaklings or idiots? At least Sonya had some muscle-mass and attitude to her.

I'm not asking asking them to revamp Sonya style of clothing. Theres nothing wrong with Sonya having at least one costume that is sexy and shows skin.

At the end of the day, what makes Sonya more attractive than Kitana or the others (excepting Mileena) is her personality, not her clothing. But if you make her wear something skimpy then it goes against her character, because she is a soldier, not a swimwear model.

Considering the numerous other scantily clad women in MK already, why does she have to join the fold just for the sake of it? Its disrespectful to her character to make her a sheep to the waifs. The idea is actually kind of insulting.

The idea of Sonya fighting in a swimsuit would violate her character in every imaginable way, she looked good in the Krypt pic (and the text was hilarious!), but only because that made sense, she was on the beach as a lifeguard, not on a deadly battle field as a chosen warrior.

Sonya is perfect the way she is, gotta love the tough chick personality.

PS: Hers and Mileenas personalities are total opposites, so I doubt they could even be compared, way too different in goals and thoughts.
