I am really digging Kotal Kahn.

I don't know about you guys, but his chapters in the comics are really making me warm up to the character. I'm rooting for him and I love how he is a selfless character. You would think at first glance that Kotal Kahn would be a bad guy but he's simply a man who is honorable and wants to protect the people of Outworld.

He's also the character that made me realize the name Kahn is in fact a title, and his rise to power is great story material. Now as for some spoilers for those that didn't read the books yet

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
The way Kahn used his blood god variation, that makes it seem that he only uses it out of desperation and that it takes its toll on his body, but the way he took out both Goro and Rain was badass


I could go on for days about Kotal, but I'd love to hear your opinions and theories about what is going to happen to the character further. I'm a classic character enthusiast, but Kotal is one of the newcomers that has me excited to play this game.

I love all those titles, by the way. :)

To the OP: I loved his design, moveset and fatality when he was first unveiled, and these comic chapters are only justifying and increasing my admiration for him. While I highly doubt that he'll be my all-time favourite character, he's definitely going to be in my top five by the time I get to play as him.

At first I hated Kotal Kahn : he is too similar to Ogre from Tekken and his name is stupid, almost a bad fan fiction name. The fact that he used pretty much the same blood powers of Skarlet and being the fourth character to use the heart rip Fatality didn't help either.

But he is growing on me and this is due to Shawn Kittelsen 's effort to create a cool backstory for the character.

I wonder if characters like Hotaru, Hsu Hao, Bo' RAI Cho and others would have been so hated if they had a proper comic book introduction. If the characters of the original trilogy are so loved by fans, is also merit of John Tobias' work.


To me Kotal will be always "crippled" by some mistakes like the ones mentioned early on, but with a light redesign he could improve.

Kotal is the only reason I'm buying this game and the only reason I'm excited for it. If it wasn't for him and i didn't get fujin i would have skipped out. But hes so great I'm starting to not care about fujin.

What I find great is how they show the parallel of time in the different realms. Kotal came to Earth during the early Aztec days and they built their image around Kotal's appearance and race, when he left they were wiped out by the conquistadors due to pestilence. I really dug that.

I really like how Mortal Kombat is moving on from Shao Kahn as the main villain and they're exploring the turmoil and chaos in outworld without a stable government in place. Kotal Kahn I feel is going to be one of the tragic heroes where he gets so close to his goal but falls short.

I found it so badass that his father used the Sun God variation and when Rain blocked out the sun, Kotal changed up his variant to the blood god and kicked everyone's ass.

When Kotal was shot off of his horse I have a feeling there's going to be a showdown between Sonya and D'vorah in exchange for Cassie and Kotal. I can't wait for next week.

I agree Kotal Kahn to me has been more interesting and MEANINGFUL in a few comic issues than Shao Kahn has been in 20+ yrs!

He is my favorite of all the new characters and definitely one of my mains. I love his design and his variations are among my favorites and most diversified. I also like the fact that he is not your typical villian who just wants power and is blinded by this one desire. Loving Kotal Kahn.

The only one, are you kidding me? you need to read the chapter 8 spoilers thread, everyone is digging him, and that was the point, he is being presented as powerful and badass, so is only natural the hype got into people's brains again and think that he's the best character ever!!, until chapter 9 introduces a new character, then he/she will be the best one ever.

His design still isn't that appealing to me. Yea I get it, he's a sun god. Just not that badass "look" wise. He seems kind of forced to me. I'm hoping his gameplay will redeem him. If he's my style of character I may enjoy him.
