If done right a mortal kombat online like GTA Online. An open world game with multiple realms for us to go to like konquest and we can either choose from a ton of MK characters and also have a really deep kreate a character. We can go through n look for kollectables like treasure chest filled with money or random characters to fight n unlock if we win n even random players walking around n challenge them to a fight. Then have set places to go to chess kombat, puzzle kombat n motor kombat m even some new stuff. Its something different n can be cool if done right
No more open-online games (AKA no-life games) please!!
Let them put their energy into other projects (a smash bros clone with MK characters for all I care) but not an open world game.
Open World games are fun as long as they are offline, when they are online they tend to be ugly, simple and very empty (the world).
Rather have them create more mythology games that are awesome.

Id play it!!
BUT that being said, I would only want NetherRealm to Over see it from a story and character perspective.. Let another team take the reigns. I don't want them to do one of those and the next Injustice sequel and end up having to wait 10 more years for another legitimate Mortal Kombat game.

It would really be fun to see 10.000 Mileena's and 50.000 Scorpions all be in the same freaking world... what did I say? In the same CITY!
Really not logical.

I'm fairly confident if Netherrealm Studios decide to make an open world online mode, we'd play as created characters.

In that case you can wait 40 weeks before you finally can speak to Scorpion or Sub-Zero as 10.000 other onliners are in line to get his tasks.

I'd love to see a high quality action-adventure-rpg in the MK universe. Something along the lines of Mythologies except not awful, and in a full 3D third person perspective. Even a sequel to Shaolin Monks I'd love.

Is this hitting you close to home?
There are a lot of open world online games already in existence, and the world isn't any more shitty than usual.

That's not how MMO's work lol.

Not really.
I just hope they put their energy into something more original or just fighting games.
Online Games are so overdone and MK shouldn't begin that road.

So basically a MK MMO? No thanks.

But that's what's in these days. People like online games, even after all the crap such as down server times or that too many people got on at once the "realms" or "servers" can't handle it whatsoever. People still go for it, and I don't think it's ever gonna go away.

I can't tell if you're being serious here, or really have a lack of knowledge on how MMOs work.

In Boons interview he had with Machinima, he stated that they are doing something new with the on-line mode.

I'd rather they made a proper MK MMORPG where you can make your own character and build him/her up from lvl 1, join a faction like the Lin Kuei or Shao Kahn's army etc, follow a cool storyline and fight other players online. I'd totally play that!
Games are evolving and the use / design of multiplayer is evolving. Everything isn't trying to emulate Ultima Online and World of Warcraft anymore. That being said, GTA online is not my cup of tea so seeing it reskinned as a MK mode does nothing for me.
I am however excited to see what's in store for the Persistent Online Mode in MKX.

I've been dreaming of this since MKD Konquest... and I won't stop dreaming till it happens!

Same here, I hope it's well worth the hype.

Well MK9 was their best selling game, and the franchise is getting more popular day by day. So hopefully that dream will come true soon. If not, I'd be happy to play a successor to Shaolin Monks for now.

MMOs aren't very good for storytelling.
There are suddenly a million "heroes" in the world, each doing mundane unheroic bullshit like hunting animals in the fields in order to grind their way to level 50 or whatever...and none of them are the important namebrand characters, who are unplayable and now just hand out meaningless missions for you to do instead of fighting the villains themselves. And no one can ever die or do anything that changes the setting in a meaningful way.
It's like Syndrome said in The Incredibles, "When everyone is special, then no one will be."

Before it was decided that Mileena was a newborn whore with the attention span of a mollusk, I dreamed about just such a thing starring her, Kitana and Jade and followed them from Kitana's youth, Kahn's conquest of Edenia, Mileena's creation, up through to the first tournament.
:(

Nah MMOs aren't my cup of tea, simply because the character we create won't exist in the lore...
I would love an Action Adventure MK like Shaolin Monks, that had the melee of God of War/DmC and exploration of MKDeception's Konquest mode...and if they do another Special Forces/Ops with Cassie, then it should have a 3rd Person Shooter aspect to it as well
