I've heard MK8 was in planning stages before MKvsDC, any idea how close MKX is to the planned MK8? Someone mentioned yesterday Hotaru (!) was planned as a boss, got me wondering. All I heard was they planned an entirely new cast besides Scorpion and Sub Zero. Was any more information ever released!? Any final relation to MKX?

LOL at Hotaru being a boss....

Look, I have loved the 3D games and spent a lot of time with it, but 90% of the characters introduced in those games suck major ****s.

MK8 was a dark Gears of War level of grittiness inspired reboot that never really took off into full production. Forget it , forget about it and move on.

That was just a fan theory.
During armageddon's developement Ed Boon stated:"We want a new beginning, We want to wipe the state clean. Leaving all the good things introduced so far, deleting or improving or redesign what was wrong. It is part of the evolution of the franchise. After fourteen years, It's what MK really needs. I just saw a game by Epic, It was Gears of War. Damn! When I saw it for the first time, I thought 'That' s what I want from MK, a serious, yet fun to play game, with a dark and gritty atmosphere. "

At first many of us thought about a remake/hard reset of the franchise, killing off all the characters but Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

In reality Ed Boon never spoke about killing characters, if not many years later on his Twitter and only for the z-lister ones like Drahmin and Hsu Hao.

With" wipe the state clean" he was talking about gameplay mechanics and in minor part artistic changes, but not about the story or the roster.

All the "rivalries between two, just one will be back" thing that was born with the release of the collectors editions of mk armageddon was another example of fan misinterpretation.

I blindly believe that even without WB involvement and without Midway bankrupticy, We 'd have Mk9. With less quality and developement time, but the same game regardless.
