Eeeeh. I mean cool. But I doubt it will play into the story in the game.

Not sure if you are serious. The purpose of the comic is to provide background for the storyline of the game. I think this issue provided some serious hints at who the big bad may be. I understand being hesitant to confirm whether or not a character will be playable in the game. But its clear that Reiko and Havik aren't small time characters who are going to be killed off in the comic.

The comic is also trying to tell its own story and it's been said there's not going to be much if any overlap of scenes between the two.

Do you have a source for this? I always thought the comic would eventually move away from the game's story. As in the comic will continue to come out long after the game. But for now it absolutely is a prequel to the game.

Kittelsen said the comic will not cover MKX story mode. He said yo get the full story u read the comic and play the game and its a full story that way,

and im sure if the comic goes on for awhile maybe they will do post mkx, but they still got TEN YEARS of story they can use in the comics before the mkx game story

Wasn't it also mentioned that the comics and story mode would each be a stand-alone storyline? But when overlayed produced an epic or grand story?

Read the comics, great story.

Play story mode, great story.

Do both, AMAZING story.

I see it going one of two ways...

It's either setting one/both of them up to be the primary antagonists of the game.

OR...

It's setting one/both of them up to be the primary antagonists of this particular comic book story.

While the former would likely please fans more, the latter seems far more likely. And I say that in an unbiased way, as I'd prefer the former.

Either Ed said, "We need the comic book to set up the game's big villain" and they used them, or he said, "The comic book needs a big villain that doesn't spoil the game, who's available?"

I'd post it, but the last time someone linked to Kamidogu.com on here, it was deleted. Suffice to say, you can search up the interview they did with Kittelsen. He said "our narratives are intertwined but not overlapping."

One thing I absolutely love is that there are so many factions, and even within those factions there's leadership issues, animosity and outright backstabbing. It's not just "character X is the big bad guy and all other bad guys are lackeys for character X."

It's not as simple as Raiden's good guys versus Khan and his minions. I think that's what I love the most about the whole Reiko / Havik thing. Not only is it awesome seeing two characters like that seemingly becoming major players in the story, it also adds a ton of intrigue and kinda shakes things up too.

I mean hell it's what, a month out now and we still have no clue as to the final boss? Is it Shinnok? Kotal? Mileena? Reiko? Havik? Liu Kang? Someone else? I mean, how awesome is it that this is still so wide open?!

Regarding the intertwined but not overlapping storylines, that certainly does not mean that the big bad guys will be different. The two storylines are going to be mutually informative. These guys might not end up being the big bad guys of the game but I would be surprised if they weren't included in the story mode of the game at all.

Agreed. I also like to think that yes, while the comic is its own storyline that can intertwine with the Story Mode of MKX or be a stand alone story as well, it's still in the stage of setting things up for us. Bare in mind this comic was used to introduce us to 3 of the 4 descendant characters as well as Erron Black. Could the Havik/Reiko pairing be its own thing for the comic? Sure. Could it also be setting up something that would be touched upon in the Story Mode for the game? Sure as well. They said scenes would've overlap, they never said anything about sub-plots. All they said was events wouldn't be shown twice. So the Havik/Reiko pairing is still fair game for the time being.

My money is on Havik and Reiko being the comic story villains, and by the end of the story we will be introduced to the real villain and these two will either be dead or transformed in some manner.

Since we're discussing seperate bosses for the comic and game...

I wonder if Havik still has any interests in eating the heart of the Dragon King...
