Has MK become ALL about the Special Forces now?

YEP. It seems like everyone forgets this when they automatically lump those guys (and Scorpion) in with the heroes. And the Special Forces guys are split up between two generations. Intro dialogues indicate even more shifting alignments.

Oh come on, the revenants are pretty much hostages, most of them non playable, we have original reps from the BoS, people are asking for those.
And I don't understand how the Special Forces being split into generations helps to solve the issue, do you believe by the time the main heroes become SF the old ones retire or something?

Factions are clearly unequal, but the good vs. evil ratio seems to hold up as usual. I mean
Good.....
Raiden
Sub-Zero
Johnny
Sonya
Jax
Cassie
Jacqui
Kung Jin
Takeda
Kenshi
Kung Lao
Kitana
Scorpion?
Evil....
Kano
Mileena
Quan Chi
Shinnok
Erron Black
Kotal
Ermac
Reptile
D'vorah
Ferra/Torr?
Rain?
The Big Bad
We don't know yet the rest of the roster and who will actually be playable, but I'm sure at the end of the day it will be 50/50. That's all that matters in MK universe.

We don't know if Kotal and his group are evil.
Just putting them in the Neutral category until further notice

Yeah, considering he worked with Raiden during the Netherrealm War and seems to take assistance from Cassie and Co. I think it's safe to say they're neutral at best.

Not in the slightest. But the roster rant thread would love to hear your thoughts.

Until the story itself proves otherwise, yes, I am willing to speculate that most if not all of the old Special Forces heroes decide to retire from active kombat and take up supporting roles. Or die, for dramatic purposes. I am willing to speculate, based on the evidence at hand, that the purpose of this game is to transfer focus from the old heroes to the new ones over the course of the game. I am willing to speculate that OHGODGUYS EVERYTHING SUCKS AND CAN ONLY CONCEIVABLY SUCK EVEN HARDER is just one out of several ways this game can play out.
But you know what? Even though I am so sick on all the bullheaded complaining that just looking at the game makes me want to vomit now -- only because it reminds me of all the complaining -- I would still rather be having this drama than to sit through "Damn, they just replaced all the old characters and gave them all their moves, why didn't they just give us OLDER versions? Johnny and Sonya survived, they DESERVE to be in the next game!"
And can you imagine, if they left the classic characters out, how many people would take one look at Cassie and go, "Welp, looks like Boon didn't learn his lesson from Jarek and Kira!" just because they wouldn't be able to see the difference between Johnny, Sonya, and Cassie without seeing all three side by side for comparison?
Maybe I just need to keep in mind that as bad as the complaining has gotten, it could have been so, soooo much worse.

Because Cassie was the only case where a legit case of replacement could have been argued, since their parents where the most expected of all the goodguys, everything else is just damage prevention for potential rejection of the main heroes, nothing else. If a character is well written and plays well it doesn't need a lousy blood relation crutch, they did it with every new Earthrealm warrior, I think that's a little excessive, but it speaks tons about their confidence when it comes to creating main heroes. Did Jacqui and Kung Ji really need it? for the four of them to be related to an old favourite SF seems awfully contrived.
You'd think this is the extent of the complaining, but it will get progressively worst as we get closer to release unless we get some news that somehow contradict the leaked roster, this is just the denial complain, despite all the "whining" people still hold out hope that this roster isn't final and characters from other factions and backgrounds will get announced.
This is a lot different from what we were expecting a couple of months ago, some have a harder time than others adjusting to the current situation, they need their space to vent.
NRS isn't stupid, they know playing it too safe has a cost, they will definitely try make up for it with a griping story, "passing the torch", or focusing on making the gameplay drastically different between characters that could be accused of playing too similar
The fact still remains though, the roster is a very important part of a fighting game, specially when it comes to first impressions, and if the leak is correct this will become a source of legit criticism and whine for a long time. Enough to hurt the sales? lol, definitely not, they have this one in the bag, everyone is talking about it, one of the most anticipated games of 2015 for sure, and that is what makes it even more frustrating. Why don't take risks? they literally had the chance since the game is sold to the fans already. I really think they could have reached a more balanced compromise that would have made a lot of fans happier.
I certainly hope the focus on special forces dies with this game. I fear the worst though considering how much people (especially in the U.S) love that extremely overused military "epic" flavour on everything. Games have to sell, and these themes have proven to do the trick for the masses, don't they? Same crap everywhere.
Netherrealm continues to be stuck on that Hollywood approach instead of the dark mystic oriental theme the series is known for.

Wow, you hit the nail with that one, now things make even more sense. I think I'm starting to see the big picture about this game.

It's completely pointless to want a good story mode in an MK game, since they'll retcon 95% of it in the following game anyway.
Fighting and fatalities are the only important aspects of this series. Always been that way.
