Im of course talking about games like special forces mytholgies and shoalin monks.
What kind of new mk game would you like to see. I dont think it necesarilly has to be a beat em up but im completly down for that to. They could incoprirate new elements but still make you feel like your in the mk universe. Heres a few of ideas that could work.
A game focused on the ninjas. A game that incoperates both hand to hand combat and fast action stealth (think the new spinter cell with swords). Two factions could be used for this game. The lin kuie (they have the largest amount of ninjas) or playing as assasins for kahn or shang stung.
Another attempt at the special forces / red and black dragon. special forces apparently sucked but given another attempt wouldnt be a horrible idea. i think it would be cool for a more modern mk game with guns and vehicles ( it may sound absouletly wack and out of place thats why its just a suggestion)
A downloadle side scroller. These are making a big comeback on xbla think basically a new mytholegies but way more slick (kinda like vietful joe)
Sorry for the lengthy post but its a pretty big subject with lost of possibilites

Awhile back I thought it'd be a cool idea for them to make a game based on the different clans/races and have it MK Saolin Monks style. There would be different storylines for each clan/race and you could play as one of the fighters that falls in each one. For example, you could have the Zaterrans be slaves under Kahn(I think them being slaves was mentioned in Reptile's MKII ending) and you'd play as Reptile who is trying to save them and starts a revolt against Kahn's forces. Theres just a lot of potential with there bein Centaurs, Shokans, Edenians, Red Dragon, Lin Kuei, Shirai Ryu, etc. The storylines obviously don't have to be canon but it gives the MK team a lot of creative space and wiggle room to have fun with ideas and gameplay
I'd like to see adventure games like Shaolin Monks take place during the timeline of MK4 so that could clear up a few things for me. It would be cool to play as one of the good guys the first time around and when you beat the game you can do the bad guy's point of view.
I'd actually like to propose something a bit unorthodox in that I'd love to see Netherrealm really get their shit together and devote a portion of their development team towards strictly making an action / adventure / rpg series. The MK fighting games would still have elements of story but really, this new game series would handle the bulk of the continuity and tie in to the fighting games past, present, and future.
With such a huge cast of characters and this broad sprawling fantasy universe, the MK series is practically begging for a game series that really has the opportunity to delve into the characters and story that just isn't possible in a fighting game. These games could explore vague yet interesting aspects alluded to in the canon ( Shao Kahn's story comes to mind) while later possibly telling stories that take place in between the fighting games. Quality wise, I'm talking about a legit polished action/ adventure / rpg on the level of God of War or Mass Effect in scope... or at least heads and shoulders above Shaolin Monks and Special Forces.
I know a lot of what I'm proposing hinges on various factors (MK 2011 being successful, Netherrealm having the resources, WB thinking it's a good idea, etc.) but I think the franchise is long overdue for a solid game outside of the fighting genre.

Special Forces, Mythologies and Shaolin Monks.
Games that focus on fleshing out the characters alot better, and give better insight into the story element, fantasy, and lore of the MK universe. Flesh all the cliff hangers, all the incremental, and inconclusive stuff out.
Ninja Games
War Games
Games that focus on the bad guys
ect...

Also a RTS Mortal Kombat would be an absolute abortion of a game.

Says you.
If they did it right it'd be really awesome
imagine sweeping a pack of Tarkatans across the countryside and Banzai a squad of Tekunin.
Oh ye of little faith.

Well I mean I fully admit that I fucking hate RTS's so I'm biased. They feel too much like glorified multitasking to me, even if the strategy part can be interesting and it's woven together with a narrative.

I like the idea of a war kind of clans game for sure. Me i never liked rts games either, id prefer a starwars battlefront war type game but mk i think that could turn out pretty sic.
Yea like buddy said theres so many factions and clans that really need exploring and your work with either an rts game or a battlefront style game.

I think different views/modes would make everyone happy
a Brutal Legend view to follow troops in third person and the classic RTS style to view massive armies moving across the map.

No thanks. fighters are scarce enough as it is. I'd rather see MK stick to beat-em-ups.

I like the beat em up style like MK:SM and an RTS might actually have a bit of potential if done correctly but I would rather have a hack/slash beat em up RPG similar to maybe the Diablo series...or you could throw in all styles of each genre in one game.
