Frustrated Reptile Fan

Hey guys, I'm new to the site. Just wanted to share my thoughts about my favorite character and wondering if other Reptile fans feel the same way.

All of it began once I watched the Kitana Reptile breakdown stream. I first would like to say that the introduction of the variation system has been one of the biggest features I've been looking forward to in MKX and everyone that was shown before Reptile had so much uniqueness. I was really impressed. I remember the thought of Reptile getting equal treatment and the potential of having such diverse gameplay between his variations got me so excited. I was so sure NRS would come up with something cool for my boy.

Sadly, they didn't. I understand the reasoning for why they did what they did and that's to have a character new players can easily pick up, and it sucks that it had to be Reptile.

But I'm torn, I wanted Reptile to receive the same love as everyone else on the roster. I'm telling you, after today's Kenshi Sonya stream, I'm honestly jealous of the other characters. Why did NRS single out Reptile? Is it wrong of me to sincerely want more of an explanation other than they wanted a noob-friendly character? It would've been fine if other characters got the Reptile 'treatment', but nope, so far he's the only one.

Every time they do these streams and I see that the revealed characters are getting 3 variations with 3 different gameplay while Reptile sits in the corner with 3 Injustice traits, I'm left feeling even more disappointed. I don't wanna even mention his bland X-RAY and his first Fatality. What the hell, he has claws, acid, force balls, invisibility, a long ass tongue, super speed and that's the best X-RAY/Fatality they can come up with? I don't buy it.

Let's be honest here, there was very little love given to his gameplay. And now one of the few only things I'm looking forward to is his story, which to be honest I'm dreading given Reptile's treatment in past games sad. As a Reptile loyalist I'm still going to main him.

I like human Reptile as well but I think it won't fit anymore. When he was human he was supposed to be in disguise but now since everybody knows how Reptile looks it doesn't work.

I hope he gets an UMK3 ninja costume and all the other ninjas do too.

I like Reptile he is my 2nd favorite ninja and I think gameplay-wise he looks really powerful and is very fun to use. Sure he doesn't have much going for him in terms of variations but he still looks like a lot of fun and I'll be trying him out.

I don't think there is anything wrong with this Reptile and as a fan of Reptile I'm not really upset at all :).
For what It's worth I liked Green Ninja Reps. But I also like his two new looks here in X, I'm interested to see what Kraken Reptile will look like too. Hopefully more bestial and primal looking and not dumb face tentacles or something. Here's hoping one of those full ninja concepts is a second alternate. I must be the only Reptile fan who wants to see everybody get the Reptile they always liked.

What's wrong with a user-friendly character? Call me biased but I'd like to see my favorite characters used alot due to being so strong (but not op) Same with Mileena.

As for his moveset I want to believe his whole moveset/combos/normals is more than what we've seen in streams and gameplay.

The jumping slash is an intriguing way of avoiding projectile happy players.

I forget does that have armor on it? I wonder if you can avoid Erron's caltrops that way

Yeah, he looks pretty good so far. Actually, he looks a bit more balanced than in MK9. His slide looks so much better too. It's just that in comparison to the rest of the roster it seems like they didn't try as much. Sonya has a little spaceship toy thingy like in the movie Batteries Not Included. I love it! That's the kind of love I was looking for.

At the end of the day, what really matters is Reptile's MU against everyone and their variations. Hopefully he has the tools to deal with everything.

I get what you are saying and I kinda agree. He doesn't have many differnt ways to play like the others do. His invisible will probably be hardly used. His stink is nice but changes nothing and his slow mo will just make his combos longer and easy. It kinda sucks but it also doesn't cus I feel like reptile will always be a person I can fall back on when I forget stuff.

It's not that he's for casuals, it's that he has 800 special moves that spread across all 3 variations. None of his normals change. I can see where you are coming from, the stinky cloud looks like the only fun variation to me. He wasn't shafted by the lack of 3 distinct variations though. They are just buffs to his 800 special moves and combos.

I think his gameplay in MKX is looking great for the most part. The slide looks much better. I honestly still can't decide which variation to go for first. They all look great, and I'm kind of glad they didn't sacrifice any of his specials in any of the variations just for diversities sake.

The majority of my gripes are mainly just aesthetics. Green. Vibrant green. Neon green. Even just a hint or accent of it on his outfit would have sufficed.

I also liked MK9's (MK2) execution of the Force Ball better than MKX's, but that's not really a big deal. Also preferred the way they looked in MK9, but again, not a deal-breaker.

Hands down, my biggest complaint on gameplay is that goddamned X-ray. There's really nothing about it that's unique to his character or moveset. Plus, we had the eye gouging in MK9, but if nothing else, they could have kept that and added in a slide that broke kneecaps, or a slash to the face that ripped through the bone, or SOMETHING that was unique to his abilities.

Fatality is also kind of meh, but at least there's like 6 other options in that department so I can make due.

How could I not make my own comments here? First of all, yes, I do agree with almost everything said. Reptile has always been the lackey. Why not have him be fed up with being a servant and go lone wolf... Er.....lizard? Maybe give him rule of Outworld, that'd be great! Just SOMETHING.

As for his looks, give him a very ninja esque look but keep his lizard skin. I mean why not? I even have that in my Sig!

As for his noob friendly gameplay, his Noxious and Deceptive variations seem to have easy counters. Noxious? Just go in and out when you attack him and don't stay near him for long periods of time. Deceptive? Any moderately good player can predict where he is based on camera angle and what Reptile's move set is.

As for his X-ray and fatality, they suck. Terribly. Here's to hoping his second fatality and his brutalities are good.
At least his theme song from the movie is kickass.
One day Reptile will get his due. We just have to wait. But regardless he will still be my number 1/main.

To be fair, Deception wouldn't have been possible without him. Really you could say he was the fucking STAR of that game. Vessel or not.

But yes, Reppy is love and always will be.

Even better. If that's the case, I'll probably try to execute that all the damn time. Although his Acid Bath fatality has me curious too. That wasn't the name of the one shown, was it? Can't recall the other one's title atm.

And just so I know, were you referring to his MK2 Head Eat or that UMK3 complete devour one? Because the latter is what I thought of when you said "meal".

I'd imagine the head would just be a snack for him.
I was thinking MK9/MK2 Tasty Meal.

Complete with "Mmm!" And rubbing his belly as a winpose.

Speaking of how is everyone enjoying his voice? I really like it.

I intend to main reptile and spam dashes and low licks just like mk9 to frustrate the online community. Don't get me wrong; I'll lose to elite and good players right and left, but you'd be surprised how many people lose to a spammy reptile online.

Y'know, I was surprised that MK9's iteration didn't include the "mmm". Especially since it was his "Klassic Fatality" and all. I wouldn't have even cared if they used the exact same sound clip from MK2 tbh.

It's alright, but I'll reserve full judgement until I hear him more in story mode....granted he has any lines. tongue

I bet Kraken Reptile looks sick... Im telling you guys some of the characters that look a little bland will make up for it with alt costumes... game looks and sounds great!

Trust me I am right there with you. But I gotta maintain hope for him or else I'll be too bummed out to buy on Day1.
