I wish flip stance did something more substantial... but anyway. Ever since i played MKDA on gamecube, i've been comfortable with that particular control layout (Z button is throw, Z is in same place as R1) and i always change the control settings to have throw as R1. In injustice, for example, i swapped 'throw' and 'interact' to make throw R1. Point being that there's always some leeway with what button does what, so if you don't like it, you can change it.

Yes, but otherwise on it's own it's entirely useless 99% of the time. They could have come up with a more useful function for it.
I'm 99% sure it didn't affect gameplay one bit, only the fact that when crossing up opponents your character would have their back to screen and for changing that. I don't think it affected a characters reach at all. I might be wrong on this, but i think the consensus from community is it doesn't. Maybe a pro player like MK_Tombrady can tell, but the majority of the community doesn't think so.
