So I just completed the game, thoroughly enjoyed it however I can't help but feel disappointed that they did the release trailers for Kitana, Liu etc looking older and in their normal human forms. Yet at no point in the game are they actually restored to this state which annoyed me.

I understand that they want room to progress the plot for upcoming games but if that is the case, I would have preferred it if they filled the spots in the roster with characters that make more sense.

I honestly feel that Baraka (not a huge fan) would have made more sense to fill a space. Kitana had as much relevance as Sindel. Personally I feel like they should have left them until the next game for when they undoubtedly get restored.

Either way I still enjoyed the game! Thoughts? smile

I loved the story! But I was super pissed that Kitana, Liu and Kung Lao did nothing. They were pointless. They were only added due to popularity. Sindel did more than all 3 of them. Baraka, Rain and Tanya should have been on the main roster.

Same with Mileena to be honest, although she had a larger role than those three.

I too was very miffed and confused as to why they would bother marketing or designing none Revenant forms for them if they were restored in the game.

Why not just have them as Revenant's all through? Why bother giving them non canonical costumes some of which age them making it seem as though they live on as mortals? Same thing goes for Scorpion.

Onto the next thing about Kitana however.

What are they trying to say with her? I found the commentary very confused and fucking stupid.

She enjoys being a revenant and is giving purpose by being able to be evil?
Why? That all just makes her sound like an angsty teenager.

Why would Kitana find purpose in serving ultimate evil and trying to vanquish the realms when that is exactly what she was against which is why she turned on her "father"

Also, where is Jax getting this idea from? He should know first hand that she is not in the drivers seat as he was acting the exact same way when he had Quan Chi in his head.

And if they are trying to say it was because of her vision of the life she would have had but was robbed of due to Raiden's time travel antics then, well that still makes no sense because that just means her issue is with Raiden.
Not with those fighting for the freedom of the realms, people she loved and respected.

But heh silly me expecting anything other than ill conceived ideas from John Vogel.
I agree that aging them was completely unnecessary.

I doubt anyone would've said "Ooh I wish I could've played with a grey haired Liu Kang (or Kung Lao)"

But having non-revenants skins is nice. Fans would've been pissed otherwise.

Since a lot of fans were upset half of the roster was killed off in MK 9, I guess NRS wanted to just make them playable as human, older form to please the fans while sticking to the story of them still being dead revenants. Shit, as soon as fans saw the MK 9 story they made posts after posts youtube videos complaining I want them back, why kill them off, etc. And it went on for 3 years

I don't know. It's weird, I love Kitana in MKX but based on the build up for it, I was expecting her to play a much larger part in the story. I was hoping Mileena's role would have been bigger and ultimately Kitana would have been restored in order to help dethrone Mileena from Outworld.

I guess it gave the noobs an opportunity to shine more having most of the old main heroes out of the way.

Her role was fine. No one is complaining about Ermac or Tanya. There roles are mostly similar with the main differences being their motives.

I think the mistake is that the revenants look like they do. If they looked like Scorpion or Noob and weren't just ashy versions of themselves.

Although I have to say that some of your logic is horrible. Baraka should be in when all that happened to him is get murdered. Tanya and Rain should be in but the revenants shouldn't because they have the same roll.

They're nowhere near my top five favorite characters and even I felt the marketing campaign was downright fucking disrespectful

I actually like that they were marketed in their older forms. It was a nice bit of misdirection story-wise.

I'd presumed that they'd be restored by the end of the story like Jax, Scorpion and Sub-Zero were, simply because of the fact that they had older costumes.

I said in a few posts over the past months that I thought Kitana was about the Edenian equivalent to an Earthrealm teenager or maybe early 20s that's why she was feeling angsty and rebelling against her father. Back to story mode, initially I was displeased with Kitana's role, but as I watched story mode, I'm actually really happy with Kitana's story in this game. I don't like that she was one of the punching bags, but whatever. I have always wanted an evil Kitana.
I think technically Sindel should be the new ruler of the Netherrealm, but for the story of the game, I can see why they chose Liu Kang and Kitana. Nothing ever came of their very subtle romance over the last twenty years so in the "new timeline" they can be king and queen together and they're evil, hell yeah.
They could have done a much better job with Kitana's evil queen costume though, she's dressed like Catwoman. They should have done something similar to Mileena's vampire costume for Kitana's evil queen costume.
It will be interesting to see if that last scene in story mode is foreshadowing the plot of the next game. I think it's a safe bet after the ending of MK9's story mode was a direct hint at the plot of this game.
