So, I tweeted Tyler this question and got a response. Not sure if it has been confirmed officially but definitely something that I had on my mind.

Thoughts?

I have mixed feelings.

I was hoping that if, for example, you selected the Special Forces Faction that characters you played as, such as Cassie Cage and Kung Jin, would contribute world wide, to that side. Doesn't seem like that's the case at all.

So, if Scorpion is your main, you're able to select the Lin Kuei faction and contribute towards it. wow

It's essentially nothing more than a worldwide Call of Duty clantag with perks and benefits. That's really all faction wars are....

I'm glad about that. To me, it would suck if you could only play online as characters who are part of the faction you choose or if you play as a certain character it only contributes to "their" faction even its one you didn't choose.

This is exactly correct. The factions don't hinge on specific characters in the game, which is fine because factions is just a separate, unique thing for the online component. It has nothing to do with the story or the characters included in the game.

Yeah I can see why they'd do that.

It's very reasonable and a smart step, It's a fighting game. people are going to try out all the characters before they find the one character they like and even then they will still shift from character to character.

Let's say your main is in SF but you really wanna counter-pick your enemy but the only counter-pick is in Brotherhood of Shadow.

But you also don't want to give points to Brotherhood of Shadow, this will essentially mean you can't pick the character you want to play.

Now the way they did it is the best IMO, Because it still retains the fun of the game and allows you to enjoy the factions and help the faction you like as much as you want without being restricted.

Yeah, didn't like the idea at first but all of you make complete sense.

However, where's the rest of the Lin Kuei at?

Thank you. This kills the retarded notion that factions will determine the roster.

Does this really need questioning? It really is common sense since some characters do not belong to a select faction at all. Also some of the factions have more characters belonging to them than others.

Characters in the game don't correlate with factions. How is that so hard to understand? The factions are what you choose to be part of as a PLAYER. It has nothing to do with who's in and who's not.

Im all for the Black Dragon but i have a question if someone can clarify for me please?!

So Derek and Tyler stated that if you choose a Faction and Change you loose EVERYTHING you gained for them!

Obviously thats the point, but do you lose the rewards you acquired while with that Faction as well?

My guess is that you don't lose any rewards, unless it's a reward like Faction kill because it's specific to a faction.

But I don't think you'll lose stuff like costumes(Assuming you get costumes as reward from Factions) and other rewards.

I know. I get it the idea.

Any character you select would add points to any faction you select.

I'm simply saying that who else, besides Sub-Zero, would be a part of the Lin Kuei? No other character in the game would be with Sub.

It shouldn't, but some people have constantly been wrong about it since the reveal. At least if they see this from a Dev tweet explanation, they'll realize how the Factions actually work and believe it more than some random MKO'er like myself telling them .

I think that Tyler guy also hinted at switching from faction and go over every faction could also unlock something. But it was kinda told like he didn't deny nor confirm it.

Faction specific attire would be pretty goddamn cool though. What would a white Lotus Quan Chi look like for instance? Or a Lin Kuei Scorpion?
