There seems to be a lot of heated debates, discussions, lists of characters people want in or out and while I have my opinion and favourites, I really think for this game it does really matter.

It is normal with any fighting game to have favourites and characters you frequently use, some you use a few times and some not at all. There have been plenty of MK games where certain characters that used to be cool (Raiden, Liu Kang, Scorpion) for whatever reason did not feel the same or just didn't have the moves to make me want to play them. It can also work the other way around of course (see Quan Chi example below).

With MK, I feel like since MK2, they have started to go downhill. MK3 did see the addition of robots and Kabal, but other than that, not much. MK4 was a weird game and very forgettable for me. Quan Chi only became more interesting later (for me, this is all opinion). Then Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon came along and it only got worse. Very few interesting characters added, classics taken out, play style + more cartoonish look and overly done fatalities was just not MK like for me.

With MKX I seriously feel regardless of whether I like a characters' story, look or moves, the 3 variations system, look of the game, feel of the game, speed of the game, so many options + with X-rays and Brutalities and a more serious tone, I really do not think it matters. I've liked every single character (playing wise), they're all unique and NRS seems to have really put the effort in to make the story and characters special and interesting.

Sure there could be some shitty characters / good ones that do not make the cut, but at this point, I do not really care. I hope other can take a positive note from this and just appreciate that MK is starting to become a force to be reckoned with again, after almost falling of the face of the earth. NRS is taking this seriously and it's showing!
