Personally I think the people reacting to Boon saying "a" instead of "several" MK4 characters are reading too deep into a choice of wording made on the fly.

Personally I would expect at least Shinnok and Tanya being playable, given how many times Boon brought up that both just barely missed the cut as MK9 dlc in his Twitter. Add in the revised events of MK4 will partially play into the plot and they seem ripe for a return.

(I need to figure out how to quote people again)

Good point. He's definitely a character that hasn't gotten the attention he deserves (among others of course), and I have a good feeling he'll show up this time around. Either that or its just wishful thinking~

This is a good point as well. I learned during the last generation of games not to take anything Ed or any of the team's words as gospel or very very seriously.

If we're going to be seeing any MK4-MKA characters, I'm betting it won't be as many as people are predicting. For some reason, I just don't see it. However, it's safe to assume Kenshi, Shinnok and Tanya will be there.

- Kenshi because he was DLC and arguably one of the team's favorites post MK4.
- Shinnok because of his ties to the cliffhanger ending of the previous game.
- Tanya because of the overwhelming community demand and the need to replace Kitana and Jade.

And this isn't a complete source, but its worth noting that I once asked Ed last year about characters, this was his response; @km16 @noobde Who would you rather bring back eventually for MK? Tanya, Bo Rai Cho or Havik? EB: Random choices, but Tanya.

I think out of everyone else, Fujin, Reiko, Li Mei, Ashrah and Sareena hold the cards in their favor and as much as it pains me about Havik, I think if he or Bo Rai Cho makes it in, it'll be by the skin of their teeth.

What other descendant character could he mean? This is the second time he's mentioned relatives in an interview.

He didn't say relative, he said descendent. I think he was hinting at this Sub-Zero being someone from Lin Kuei other than Kuai Liang, among others. A new (non-Cyber) Sub-Zero would be a descendant by reputation, not necessarily bloodline. (I am aware, however that this almost contradicts what MKD stated about the cryomancer race all being related at least distantly)

Shinnok, Fujin and Tanya have the most chance being the one he meant, i think. Shinnok & Fujin because story reasons. Tanya because he liked the character so much he named her after his sister. The weird thing he said is about the unlockable boss characters. If he likes this so much why wasn't it a thing in MK9?? Fuck the balancing issues, it would have been fun, even if offline only (i don't care about online but i know other people consider it)

I'm thinking Shinnok, Fujin, and Tanya are likely to be in. For post MK4 characters, Kenshi, Bo' Rai Cho, and Havik seem to be good choices as well. Li Mei might have a shot too since Boon didn't shut down her inclusion like he did with Drahmin and Movado.

Keep in mind, this was the person who, when I asked if Quan Chi would be in MK9, said no, because "MK9 features the characters from MK 1-3".

Well, guess how that turned out...

We already had a Mortal Kombat game full of the klassic kharacters we all know and love. Boon's really looking toward new characters, new characters, and new characters. He mentioned in an interview to expect alot more 'decedent' or 'related' type kharacters instead of hoping for ones from previous games.

If they're gonna work on MK4-MKD characters it should be...

Shinnok
Sareena
Fujin
Tanya
Reiko
Bo'Rai Cho
Havik

And since we have Cassie Cage as Johnny's and Sonya's daughter...

Perhaps a new archenemy for Cassie, someone different from Kano.

And what of the ninjas like... Reptile, Ermac, Noob Saibot & Rain? And I would like to see Cyrax return joining the heroes and regaining his humanity.

And any thoughts for characters to replace the heroes....?
Liu Kang
Kung Lao
Kitana
Jax
Nightwolf
Stryker
Kabal
Jade
Smoke

Liu Kang - Kai
Kung Lao - some family member
KItana and Jade - Tanya
Jax - will probably be coming back, Boon and co do always find a way to get him back in the games
NIghtwolf - idk
Stryker - generic cop
Kabal - probably not
Smoke - will probably be back, or another cyborg

So Kai & Tanya take over Liu's and Jade's roles?

I prefer a new female to take over Kitana's for a while.

Ever since Nightwolf is gone in hell, a new shaman should take over with lycanthropy.

For Kung Lao, how will they bring him back? Or how about a Tibetan monk instead? Or perhaps Kenshi can take over that role without having to die like Kung Lao did.

As for Stryker's replacement. since that Rorsach silhouette, it should be a detective instead.

What of the remaining that are still alive? Which of them will be replaced with new characters and some to stay for the game?
- Reptile
- Ermac
- Mileena
- Baraka
- Kano
- Sheeva
- Noob Saibot
- Cyrax
- Sektor

According to Mythologies, Kuai Liang would be at least the SIXTH Lin Kuei member in history to use the name Sub-Zero.

There's also future offspring to consider. 'Course, Bi-Han or Kuai would have to come back from being dead to have one, or they could just give Frost a son and call it a day.

HOWEVER...I think we're overlooking the obvious possibility of multiple Sub-Zeros in the same game. MK9 did it by having Bi-Han and Kuai be alternate costumes for the same character. It's not like they couldn't do the same thing again.

I mean, for MKX Sub to be someone's son AND a Lin Kuei member, they'd have to explain who stopped the Lin Kuei from being a clan of robots ruled by Sektor. SOMEBODY came back. Somebody who has a style called "Grandmaster".

Crossing fingers for Kuai Liang/Sareena baby. Half cryomancer/half demon Sub-Zero. Please Boon let this happen.

This. That's why I'm just going to wait and see. I never was able to enjoy the 2011 MK hype because I was so worried about Rain and if he would make it, then I was worried if he would be DLC, then I was worried WHEN he'd be released once he was confirmed as dlc ect. I just couldn't relax and I refuse to go through that again with Tanya, Fujin, and others even though I want them in more than anything.

I rather enjoy the hype and be surprised by the reveals instead of expecting and hoping certain characters make it in and when they don't I end up crushed and disappointed.

Though no matter how much I don't get my hopes up there will be a sting of pain if neither Tanya or Fujin makes the playable roster. idgaf about storymode cameos.

Honestly, I think it's anybody's ballgame as to who makes the cut.

I have a few that I nearly know will make the cut. Raiden and Quan Chi are shoe-ins. They just should have announced them. I also believe Kenshi is a pretty sure bet. The whole Ermac render thing makes me believe he's AT LEAST on their minds. Aaaannnnnd Tanya and Fujin. Don't worry guys those two will be in. They've been requested far too much to sit out. Fujin was almost in the last game, and Tanya is probably the most requested post MK3 character. They will be there.

Raiden, Quan Chi, Ermac, Kenshi, Tanya, and Fujin. Yeah, all seem very likely.
