E3 2014: Gamespot Interviews MKX Lead Designer

Gamespots Anna Prosser Robinson talks MKX with Lead Designer John Edwards!

Mortal Kombat X has been a feature of this year's E3! Everybody wants to talk MKX and Gamespot found NetherRealm Lead Designer John Edwards to talk a little about his role, the new characters & the new game!

With his hands deep in the game mechanic creation process, Edwards talks about the teams' goal to maintain core trademark elements whilst developing the new game. Balancing and incorporating new characters is clearly a priority for NetherRealm as they follow-up their massive tournament breakthrough with Mortal Kombat (2011).

Gamespot are set to feature Mortal Kombat X again in a live demonstration today (June 12). The live stream is currently scheduled for 11:40am (PDT).

Open your mind dude, he wouldn't just be "smoke with metal hands" lol. He'd be his own character with Liquid metal moves, and next gen graphix. Imagine the possibilities.

As for another new female fighter, sadly I disagree. We have 3 new ones so far. I'm so in love with the old ones! LoL, I can't let go.

MK6 had 10 newbies if I recall correctly, and Boon said he "thinks" MKX will have the most newbies. Krazy!

To b honest, I really don't think it would seem like an obsession if the khrome-haters wouldn't BAIT the khrome-lovers into debating the inclusion. I actually stopped coming to this site during MK9 becuz I felt like I had to stand trial everytime I rooted for Tremor to be DLC.

But back on topic, John Edwards also mentioned they wana hit every archetype in MKX. Do u think we'll get even more brutes than Torr and KotaL?

Khrome is NOT an established character. He/She/It doesn't exist in the Mortal Kombat Universe. It is nothing more than a fan concept based on a miscoloured Smoke statuette.

I'm kinda surprised people were under the impression we'd get no returning characters or a very small amount of returning characters. Right after Ed said from MK9 to 25 years onwards should've been the tip off.

But he also said it doesn't take place immediately after MK9 but we do see what happens. But in general I've learned to not take things Ed says as gospel.

He's also made it known the story will make large leaps forward in time (and return to moments in the past). So, we're going to be later in the timeline more than we are the present. There'll be distance.
