It has nothing to do with either...techniqually that was the official ending of MK2, which means that they were telling the past.

However, the psp game is coming out in a couple of months, so we shall see what happens...

Honestly, that ending is the most pointless and absurd thing I've ever seen in Mortal Kombat.

MKDA Quan Chi (with his DK tatoos) picking an amulet he already got by that time (and don't tell me it's another amulet, because Shinnok's amulet is not in his belt).

The only way to explain that: Quan Chi travelled back in time. Why? Absurd and pointless.

Some stuff in MKSM is canon, but I bet my left ear that the ending won't be even considered by Vogel to create MKA's plot.

MKSM was basically MK2, so the ending is a retcon, or just a complete ignoring, of the ending that already happened in MK2. Since the threat of Shao Kahn continued into MK3 and beyond, and since there was so much wrong with Quan Chi and the amulet appearing in Shao Kahn's courtyard that I won't even start, MKSM's ending is not meant to be canon at all, so it doesn't set up ANY game that is scheduled to come out.
