This might be a stupid question, but did they stop with the counting with the games? I mean, is Deception really counted as the 6th in the series? Because all the games up to Deception showed some kind of a number within the title itself. Deadly Alliance had a big V in the middle of the logo and then when it came to Deception, there was nothing that signified that it was the 6th.

Here's the thing that I'm confused, because of the fact that Mk vs DC isn't really a cannon game, people are not considering it being the 8th in the series, therefore this next MK game will not be known as the 9th game.

But, if people are really counting how many games there are in the series, they should consider the latest game being the 8th, making the new one the 9th.

If this is confusing, I'm sorry. But, this was a confusing topic to begin with anyways grin

Yeah seems like the official counting has been discontinued. I personally don't want to think of the upcoming game being the 9th game, MK vs DC was a spinoff game and I think shouldn't be considered a numbered game for the main series.

The next game is MK9 because even after MKvsDCU was announced they still refered to it as MK8. Which makes it MK8 since they are the developers

The next game should be MK8. MK vs DCU isn't apart of the canon MK history as far as I'm aware and so shouldn't be regarded as MK8 at all. Why they were calling it MK8 at all is beyond me.

I guess the reason they called MK Vs DCU: MK8 was because it was built on the MK8 technology and gameplay terms was quite a step forward from MK:A.

To be honest, Armageddon was where it all got screwed anyway. Deception is "MK6", but Armageddon is no where near a big enough leap forward from Deception. There was Ukemis and Air Kombat.

To answer your question, I can say for 100% sure that they did NOT stop counting, one of the updates on Noob.com before they announced MK vs DC, was a picture of the Noob logo with 2 of the o's changed to Earth and the moon, and the numbers 238,838 (the distance from the earth to the moon) and all the 8's were in red. So I'd say it's definitely something they're fully aware of and tracking, even if it doesn't appear in all the way the game is marketed.

I wish they started counting them again! I mean, it just sounds more badass
"MORTAL KOMBAT 5!!!" than "m-m-m-m-mortal ko-ko-komba-t-t, deadly alliance..."
I hate it when they put captions on stuff...like, Transormers: Revenge of the Fallen, would've sounded more BADASS "TRANSFORMERS 2"

It looks better on the shelf as well cuz you can tell the chronology and ppl can know you have the entire collection wink

Oh, thanks for that!

And to rodrigomaru:

Yeah, the names do sound cooler with the numbers instead of some words added in there.

Maybe its something that came up when Tobias left. Ever since he left, the numbers from the titles have been dropped.

Not saying its a legal issue, it might be a personal choice thing.

Deadly Alliance's logo was a stylized roman numeral five, so technically, they didn't drop the numbers immediately when Tobias left.

They probably only stopped numbering the games because they thought subtitles would sound cooler and be a better marketting strategy.

I knew that the symbol in Deadly Alliance was the roman numeral for five... but you pretty much also explained about how they stopped with the numbers.

Sometimes the numbers sound better, sometimes the titles sound better.

Yeah, I prefer the numbers by FAR.

The titles have a way of sounding too much like wrestling pay-per-view events.

To me, this is MK8. Since }{ombat reminded me... I REALLY hope that Ed doesn't post all of that teaser stuff on noob.com, only to give a reveal something similar to "surprise! It's a versus game!" for the next game.

That was such a huge let down. Probably the biggest I've ever had with a video game.
