Deathtraps and Minigames combined... could it work?

I always hated the fact that once you're hit with a hard punch or kick in the red semi-circle, you're automatically dead. You can't save yourself or anything like that, be completely humiliated if you somehow die normally during the first round right next to the death trap, round two begins and your opponent kicks you right into the trap...

No, that needs to stop. So, I had an idea... most of us like death traps, and most of us like mini-games... Yes, even though not everyone here completely liked the fact that there were mini-games featured in fights such as when you're floating in mid air, the close combat as well as the test your might min-game... but this could work actually if you put your mind to it.

Let's say you and another person are fighting in a zone with a death trap that had you knocked onto a moving platform that will suck you right into a steam-roller to flatten you out. You got knocked into the death trap... By repeatedly pressing the buttons quickly you can save yourself from a trap.

I think that deathtraps should not just have you get knocked into the trap and automatically die. You should somehow save yourself from them. Even though there are certain traps where this wouldn't quite work, such as the acid pool, but think about it, one hit kills and they suck. I can't stand them in any other game, and I don't like one-hit kills in this game.

So, how does that work out? I think it could work... but then you're wondering, well what the hell does the other person do when your trying to save yourself? Put pressure on your opponent that's what.

Going back to that example again... your seeing that this guy could possibly get out of the death trap easily... well you too press the buttons repeatedly and you will somehow make it harder for your opponent to get free. Such as, the animation has it where your character is probably throwing stuff at your opponent to make him/her trip... you will make it harder and lets add some effects in there where your opponent's screen is shaking, making it harder to see where the bar is at...

Yeah, this could be an interesting game if it could work. Not saying that it will work, but it could.

it could work. here are a few games that show different examples.

god of war - tap whatever button that appears on the screen and if you dont you die or mess up.

re4 - tap the button or bottons that appear on the screen and if you don't you die.

jericho - tap the button or bottons that appear on the screen and if you don't you die.

wwe smackdown vs raw 2009 infernos match - intiniate with a grapple and watch the other player tap the bottons that appear on the screen to escape the fire.

mk test your might - tap the buttons as fast as you can to break boards, bricks, bamboo, and etc.

i know mk would probably have to change a few things different but they could pull it off.

I like it, but I think it fits better in the story mode during a boss fight. I could see the likes of Shao Kahn surprising us with something like that during a fight. To where it's exclusive to a unique fight with him or whatever. I think it'd be fitting too, because it alludes to a personality that is trying to cheat to win.

Well, I might tolerate one arcade arena with a feature like that in it. I'd also want the option to turn off death traps altogether though.

I personally think death traps should be feared and be menacing. If you were able to escape them once knocked into them, they would no longer be feared or even be the slightest bit scary.

like in the other forum from acidslayer the death traps could be stage fatalities with fighters unique style. sub zero freezes someone then kicks or tosses them in to something

personaly I say take out death traps all together or just make them stage fatalities at the end of the second or third round. If I remember right, in mkda they had a concept for a stage fatality mini game

They did, and that's what I'm trying to get out here. Though I wouldn't mind a stage fatality either.

I would like to see that return as well. I miss imputing the button combination that leads your opponent straight into a pit wall from above.. as well as pressing the down button to watch them fall right back down to the ground.

To me, I would feel delighted if they brought back stage fatalities... if they want to replace the deathtraps then they should certainly go back creating stage fatalities. But they should look more realistic. I mean, take a look when they brought back the Subway stage in Armageddon.

I am certain that if someone got hit by a subway train at a velocity of like... 60 MPH, I don't think you would just stay flat on the ground right where you get hit. You'd be flying off the screen, probably like yards away from where you got hit.

Fantasy-like deaths are fine, but if you really want to aww the crowd, please them with something that actually looks realistic and not some cheap death that makes it look real. No, that deathtrap displeased me completely and I never performed that deathtrap on the stage again.

Also, if they manage to bring back stage fatalities, they should be new and old. Let's bring back old stages, I would not mind if they brought back all the old stages just for this next game, if there is one, and had the old stage fatalities. I'm sure no one would get bored with those at all. I know I wouldn't. I still go on Youtube and watch the old fatalities from the games in the past and I still cringe when I see most of them.

Yes, stage fatalities could work too.
