Deathstroke is the pinnacle of gratuitous edge, so much so that they made a parody character, that's even worse in his own right.
The only time Deathstroke was actually cool was when he was just Slade in the TT show, which turned him into a better character.

Deadpool was made as a Parody to Deathstroke. It was Marvel making fun of how bad DC's character creativity skills are. Hence Deadpools joking personality and being able to speak out of the comic. look it up.
