Why do people always think dead characters have to be brought back canonically? Why isn't it enough to have them as playable, non-canon characters with what-if stories?

I'd love for a character's death in the MK universe to have a long term impact on the story. Not necessarily a permanent one, but long enough.

If every stories brought back popular dead characters shortly after killing them, then *SPOILERS* Doakes on Dexter would have returned in the third season, good as new, to try and get Dexter arrested again.

If they were in the top 5 most-used characters for MK9, and didn't make the cut for MKX, sure. Other than that no, I'd rather see different characters for DLC, characters that haven't been seen in next-gen tech yet.
