I don't believe "everyone" thinks that at all. Death in MK isn't death, it's a plot device. Folks who died at the end of MKDA/beginning of Deception was playable in unchained, resurrected as mind-controlled zombies. Scenario's familiar, no?

Living or dead status won't have any real impact on roster or DLC choices methinks.

All the characters from MK9 who do not make it to the main roster of MKX I'd love to have as DLC.

MK9's DLC sold very well and fans kept badgering for more but they stopped but its possible with MKX and their awesome new technology and with ALOT of klassic kharacters not gonna make it,we could see a bunch of DLC khaarcters this time and they should. Im sick of hearing people say,Oh they'll be in the next game. Thats stupid,MKX looks to by far be the game that we all want and with this big deal about their online,I think they need to keep expanding on this game. Add more finishing moves,kharacters,game modes,mini games,etc...

I am fairly confident that every ninja will make it in the game whether that be by part of the original roster or DLC. And for that I am comforted.

I would love for Nightwolf to make it so yeah, i suppose a couple dead characters addition as DLC at least would be great. I'm not worrying though. I can do without most of them for a couple games.

Boon stated via Twitter that MK9 ́s deaths does not mean all of these characters are ruled out. He did that in submission to a fan question I believe. So we might see some of them back as a regular.

And well... Having some classic but dead storywise characters return as DLC is a good option. This way you can always have your classics return, without them interfering with the story.

As the boss character I see Liu Kang or Shujinko (just a gut feeling).

I'd love to see Nightwolf return as DLC, same for Kung Lao and even Kitana. She's by far not my fave, but she's a classic with unique weaponry. Just my two cents.

I have no problem with dead characters returning in a non-canon capacity, like Human Smoke and Classic Sub-Zero in UMK3/MKT. But storywise, I hope many of them stay dead for MKX, so their deaths' impact isn't cheaply undone.

I'm not saying they should stay dead forever, but at least wait a few more games before canonically bringing them back to life. So long as people get to play as them, do said favorites really need to be part of the storyline, as anything other than undead opponents during the story mode, perhaps?

I don't know why it is so hard for so many people to understand that. Nobody ever really "dies" in MK. There is no finality to it. If NetherRealm wants someone in a game, they'll be in the game, regardless of what happened to them previously. Cage was dead at one point and brought back. Liu Kang was killed off, brought back as a zombie, and then returned to life. They would never paint themselves into a corner like that.

The sad thing is, you'll get people who will be dumbfounded if/when "dead" characters make their next appearance.

Death isn't dead in MK, but mostly characters that die in MK skip a game, just see Johnny Cage, Kano, Mileena and some others.

They often appear again the next game or in some add-on game much like Gold or Trilogy, so one game after X.

I have a feeling that dead-isn't-always-dead means that Liu Kang and Kitana probably live again because some fans can't breath without those garbage characters...

The real cool characters like Kabal and Nightwolf are probably not seen again for a very long time....

Jade is a big questionmark, only if her non-canon ending is somewhat real she will return, but not as herself, but that is a very good thing in my opinion! Because then we still have Jade (in looks and fighting style) but with the mind of someone that doesn't care for that crappy Kitana. Perfect!

I'd rather they let whatever dead characters may appear in the game be playable by default. I mean if they have to be DLC, then fine.

I don't want them back unless they are brought back canonically. And if they are brought back canonically then I would want to at least see them coming back in the story mode. If both of those criteria are met and they don't have time to have them complete in the game then I would like to see them as DLC. If not, save it for another game.

Although I like the Sindel in MK9, I hope extuando a game with all the characters, she never come back. She did not work in MKD and does not work in any context except the MK3 story, she ends up serving out of it just to weaken the presence of other characters, especially his daughter. I will miss the screaming abilities tho... I kinda hope a new character will have those banshee-abilities in the future, but that also would be kinda cheap.
