I just watched an E3 interview with Steve Beran, and he confirmed that all the new characters designed for MKX will not be "throwaways" and only appear in one game.

If we have the same 1 person, 4 fights mechanism in the storymode, then ALL characters are doomed to be boring, canon-folder/punching bags material. IF he changes that and the bad-guys also get to be playable during the story I see many great things happening!

But knowning Boon, I doubt it :(

My own imagination will save all characters tho, i'm just so good.

How about a Story Mode as we had it in MK vs DC? (don't bash me for bringing that game up, lol).

I mean, seeing it from the perspective of the good guys (Earth/Edenia) and the other story from the bad guys perspective? This way the baddies or neutral characters can have their input in the story as well, and be more than just a punching bag. It would be pretty interesting to see if you ask me. Now that it's still uncertain who becomes the boss character, this can still happen.

I do believe MK9's story was something planned for some time by Boon & co. Some characters had simply no future in their plans. So they became story filler in which they got their ass handed to them by several characters that did have their impact. Baraka, Reptile, Sheeva... I think there's a legit chance of them not returning, since they practically did NOTHING during story mode.

Yes, but the problem is, why didn't they die in the storymode? While many that probably will return like Kitana and Smoke did die...

If they wanted to get rid of Sheeva and Kintaro, why not kill them in the storymode of mK9? Really strange.

And I don't think they want to get rid of Baraka and Reptile, they are pretty popular by standard. Maybe replace them with new Tarkatans and Raptors... but I doubt it.

Yeah, that kinda bugs me too (pun intended)

Many of the good guys died while most of the baddies stayed alive. It's been a while since I played MK9's story mode but from the top of my head Motaro, Noob, Sindel and Shao Kahn died. Noob's death is up for debat and seeing his popularity I can see him survive.

I hope they keep in Reptile, starting to like him really much in MK9. Baraka is the other way around, loved him in MK2/MKD/MKA, not so much in the previous games. And his story has never been good.

Well, anyway, to get back to D'vorah... I'm really having my hopes up for her. I cannot believe NRS brings her in and then have nothing in terms of story. Her powers are unique and I just can't believe they're gonna fuck her up as being a punching bag. Just don't see it happen. They're moving on in terms of story, so these new characters... I think they here to stay at least longer than just 1 game.

With Motaro they went the easy road, they just killed him off in the story.

Shang Tsung also died, he was merged with Sindel. All other evil-guys survived.

While i'm very happy that both my favorites survived (Sektor and Mileena) i'm pretty much afraid they only survived to get the same kind of treatment that Motaro got in MK9, to be killed in a cut-scene... Mileena probably by that annoying Kitana that somewhat is alive again and Sektor probably by Sub-Zero that takes back the Lin Kuei... after that freaking clan finally turns interesting with Sektor in the lead...

Well i'll just have to wait and see.

I doubt D'vorah is a Punching Bag, that would make me like Ed Boon even less. But as 2 of Ed Boons new favorites Ferra/Torr and D'vorah have high chance of getting some interesting things, tho Scorpion is his ultimate favorite and he's still not over his vengeance in 22 years.

WOW, WOW not so fast you little guy.

IF D'vorah and all new characters arent' played with and they don't appear HIGH on that FREAKING online-tournament-players-list they will be forgotten, as Mr.Boon said only characters that are high on that freaking list will make it into the next game.

And knowing most people are like farmers and they will never try out new stuff, the new characters are ripe for being forgotten, and the likes of Sonya and Scorpion (who everybody is familiar with) will thrive again and continue on to the next games forever.

I might regret breaking away from my own advice... but I really have to say something after reading all this:

DVorah Wrote:

Yeah, because any character who's not the kind that can instantly spam within two attacks are long forgotten after. No they are not.

DVorah Wrote:

I have absolutely no idea where you got the idea that Boon "said" characters who appeared high on this stupid online list, would be instantly in this game.

God, I feel like you think Boon is the only person that works at Netherrealm Studios, because that's all you're blaming. Not the entire group of people who decides who's in and who's out, just Boon.

First off, Boon isn't the only person that works at Netherrealm Studios, a chunk load of people do as well. Secondly, Boon isn't the only person that gets to make decisions, that's what he's got a team for. Just because he helped create Mortal Kombat doesn't mean his inputs, decisions, ideas, etc., will always be agreed upon.

DVorah Wrote:

What did the farmers do to you? I'm kinda insulted that you're using farmers as a way to insult people, because my boyfriend was one, and trust me, they're not the kind of folk you want to piss off.

That aside, I feel like you're talking about the people you're seeing on the Facebook group, in which I'll kindly suggest you stop thinking that a heck of a lot of Mortal Kombat fans are like that. Those people, I cannot stand, neither does a lot of people on this site from what it seems. They're nothing but a bunch of whiny little brats who doesn't want anything to do with this game because it's much different from the Mortal Kombat-Trilogy era.

*Phew*

How about actually paying attention to what boon said and not making shit up on the fly.

The MKX storyline mode will be different from the last MK game. At least that is what he promised. If he delivers, that's a whole different issue.

I actually think Hector Sanchez said that the least five played characters would be dropped from the next MK. But clearly somethings have changed since then so it may not even be applicable anymore.

Ice-Queen, I thought you didn't reply to me anymore.

Anyway, with Boon I pretty much mean the guys behind MK, I don't know the other names, only boon's name, mostly I say Boon & Co, but i'm lazy.

In holland/netherlands (the freaking country of farmers to many) we have this saying that if I translate it right it would say something like:

What a farmer doesn't know, he doesn't eat.

It was more like that, no hate towards farmers at all, only the texas-racist/gay-hating ones tho, but then again what is not to hate about those.

AND you just made farmers worse to me by saying your ex-boyfriend was such an agressive type of fellow that would beat other people up. (because my boyfriend was one, and trust me, they're not the kind of folk you want to piss off. )

Oh believe me Milaana, it was such a tough decision. But at least more people saw how asinine your post was. You still owe someone a link to where you hear or saw Boon said something about online and shit.

Unless you're lying and just wanted to make him look like an idiot because you obviously have a problem with online stuff. Which I must say, makes absolutely no sense.

DVorah Wrote:

No you don't, you clearly just mean Boon. If you're supposed to be this "fast typing" person, clearly laziness should mean nothing to you. It's no excuse, you're just a hater for Boon because you really do think he's the only person in control of who's in and who isn't. That's literally the vibe you give off.

Yeah, uh-huh, sure. Except again, those kinds of "fans" on Facebook are idiots who will never try something. But you have an entire fansite here who already said that they're awaiting this game, and will try out the new characters. So please, stop referring to the Facebook fans, they're not amongst us nor will they ever be.

She's the new character I'm most excited to play with so far. I'm praying that she doesn't get the Baraka/Sheeva cop-out treatment of being present for various games but only serving as the vicious loyal guard dog the some big bad villain. I also hope that she doesn't get the other over used throw-away story line of protecting a race where she is believed to be the last surviving member. I need something new and interesting for her

Well, the best way for that, it will be to make her a Neutral character. Instead of becoming someone's servant.

I don't know if anyone has thought about it but it seems NRS will release 3 images for each character's variation. And D'Vorah was the first one they did. Not Sub Zero, not Scorpion. And Boon has already mentioned she is one of his favorite new characters. So I take it that she wouldn't just be a one trick pony. At least I hope so.

I think the new-comers will play major roles in the story mode. But I think the story mode will be shit again anyway.

She'll probably be busy being someone's nemesis while good old boring Raiden kicks the shit out of someone.

She was just released. Give it some time. I'd say 20 years. If you think about people here still spelling "Lui Kang"...

I hope they mean that, but considering they've spent 10 times the amount of time and effort into crafting these newbies than they have with ones from 4-MKA- it's not at all surprising. They've had time to create a new batch of warriors they actually like rather than hastily coming up with "ideas" for characters and then throwing them in the game half-cooked and underdeveloped.
