i personally thought the parry systom in mka was ok and i have not played mkvsdc so i dont know if they brought it back in mkvsdc. plus i'd like to see hari kari brought back. so heres my idea.

every move has a counter including special moves ,but if excuted fast enough it opens up a counter for the other fighter. here are some examples

arm flip countered by armbar
sweep countered with leglock
throw countered by throw
uppercutt countered by kidney blow
high kick countered by high punch
scorpions spear countered by grab it and toss back
kitana's fan throw countered the same as you would scorpions spear

this would make the gameplay more authentic and speed up the action of the game. moves from throws, punches, kicks, chops, sweeps,to special moves being countered in a unique attack back would be satisfying. it gives an offense/defense feel to it. fatality's would not have a counter only a hari kari.

tell me what you think and if you'd like to see alternate counters for every move and if so how would this work.

but could you counter those countering counters?

but seriously this is a little deep, so I don't expect Midway to do it.

I don't like DOA....I like Mortal Kombat.

They don't need a thousand counters...they need a gameplay theme.

Everyone needs at least one trigger-able parry or counter. And the only reason why they need those things, is more for cinematics, than mechanics.

Mortal Kombat doesn't need to be technical to be good. It needs to look good, work right, and have functionality in there that compliments the purpose for the move being there.

It needs to work like a fight in a movie looks......but that takes some of the intricate control away from the player.

That's what they've been trying to do, and that's what hasn't been perfected by any game franchise......yet. Some are getting closer though.

i'd think it be possible to counter a counter into another counter. tekken and soul calibur have some great counters so i don't know why mk can't improve apon the counter systom.

also i see what your saying about having to many counters making it feel like another franchise, but mk doesn't feel as fluid as it did back in the 2d games. atleast in my opinion.

That's generally because we don't have a counter system in Mortal Kombat games. We customarily have 50/50 systems as a consequence of Dial-a-Combos.

What's wrong is that they "fix" it with stuff like the breaker system. Slapping a bandaid on a problem that needs to function differently altogether, but look similar to what we currently end up with.

It's not terrible to do that, however, I just feel it prohibits proper growth in the effect that they have been trying to get out of the various mechanics they've put together. We can tell that it's a trail and error thing for the most part because if it weren't,.....aheh, they'd have the effect they wanted, and would've stopped jacking with it every three games or so by now.
