Could this be the game that Hornbuckle is finally revealed?

There is an existent sprite which people call Hornbuckle... but that's not really Hornbuckle.
The sprite which people called Hornbuckle is a Liu Kang palette swap. The name itself comes from a Jade hint between matches, but the programmers wrote that hint as a reference to a team member. The two entities never shared any connection. The idea that Hornbuckle was actually a character reference is complete fiction, and the idea that said character is the same entity as the character seen in Pit II is also fiction.
But you know what? If we're going to bring Hornbuckle into MKX, I say make him as close to that green palette swap as possible. If they're going to make a completely new character and call it hornbuckle, I say just go the extra step and give the character a good name.

One of Onaga's servants or a primary representative of the dragon king army would do fantastic, in my mind. It could even be used as a plot device with the altered timeline to explain things.

I know that. That's what I meant in my previous post about him existing. The "Hornbuckle Who?" was only in the SNES home version of MKII as a nod to Leanne Hornbuckle, who worked on that port of the game (similar to the "Fergality" in the Genesis version). And yes, they were not connected until the fans' overactive imaginations merged them as a result, just like how they named the fire guy Torch (Blaze). Bottom line, he ultimately became "real" in a way-That Green Guy on the Pit Bridge. That's how the name is remembered to this day, not from that of a programmer.
Also, why on earth would you still want a palette swap in this day and age? If NRS/Midway really cared about these "secret" characters, they'd have put them all in the games at some point long ago. Ermac and Blaze are the lone exceptions to the rule in the series' 22-year existence (unless you want to count Skarlet, but she was dumped into MK9 with no storyline as nothing more than fan service).
the idea that said character is the same entity as the character seen in Pit II is also fiction.
I don't quite understand this.

Basically all I was trying to say was that, at the time of MK2, Hornbuckle had no basis in the games outside of the imagination of fans.
Which is why I say it's untrue that he was physically personified from the start. Unless I'm missing something, he is indeed a non-existent rumor character like Ermac and Skarlet.

I wasn't saying Hornbuckle should actually look like MK9 Liu Kang with green pants... but let's say for argument's sake that I did.
My response would be because that is LITERALLY all Hornbuckle is. Whether being a green Liu Kang is a good thing or bad thing, that is his sole quality. Even the Onaga priest thing is ultimately speculative. There is one single factual statement about the sprite fans call Hornbuckle: he looks like Liu Kang.
Again, there's zero point in bringing Hornbuckle into the game if you're just going to make a new character from scratch and call him Hornbuckle. That's not bringing a character to life, that's ripping a name from history. I could walk around my house and start calling shit Hornbuckle and it would be just as valid.

This. It would be cool if they made a new character, original design, name and all. But made his story match that of hornbuckle's (the one responsible for capturing and rousing blaze into becoming protector of onaga's egg). Then as an easter egg or something you find out in an ending or story mode that this character is also known and referred to as hornbuckle by a certain sect of people now lost.

Groot is Marvel owned by Disney, while Warner Bros owns DC Universe, so Groot wouldn't stand a chance as DLC in MK.

If we're going to make an entirely new character from scratch that looks nothing like a Liu Kang swap, no point in labeling it with a stupid name like Hornbuckle, then.

Or they can just do what they sort of did with Meat (transforming him into Drahmin) and just follow the lore they established and design him to have an Onaga theme and ditch the stupid name.

nim·bus - 1. a luminous cloud or a halo surrounding a supernatural being or a saint.
Nimbus (drop the last name) as a fellow God, sounds no more ridiculous than Raiden or Fujin to those unfamiliar with other cultures or even the meanings of certain words.
As for Hornbuckle, if drastically redone from the ground up, I'm fine with it. The more the merrier as long as he isn't a walking joke (insert Mokap).
