Forgive me if this has been discussed in any other thread. I did attempt to look.
Ever since Ferra/Torr was shown, I have gone through theory after theory. The first was that Torr might be a classic MK character under Ferra's control. Kano? They eye made sense etc. Although unlikely due to the hulking physique, my mind remained open.
Next up was my Shao Kahn Theory. I thought to myself "How would the Elder Gods punish Shao Kahn for trying to enslave the realms to the extent where he attempted to merge them?" Would the most fitting punishment not to be helplessly enslaved himself? The hulking physique made sense and the eye could also make sense.
And then I watched the Kano reveal trailer with the Jungle stage...
Ed Boon says "We take the fight to the Jungle. Ancient ruins overgrown with wilderness that was once home to a now forgotten Outworld Race."
So instead of focussing on Kano, I decided to not only pay attention to the visuals but I decided to pay attention to exactly what I saw in the background. I saw this frame here when I stopped.
Part of me looked closer. Hey, that looks pretty familiar. I tried to get a bit better of a look. Although a bit grainy, this was my 30 second screen cap.
Hey. Wait a minute. That little lady on the wall looks familiar!
I thought I could be wrong but then I compared the hair and headgear. The red arrows point to the vertical headgear going down the side of the head and the yellow arrow points to the weird, slicked back hair.
Compared it to our shot of Ferra and....
The attempted translations for the text on Ferra's head translate to "Queen" or "Silver Queen" from what I remember. Could Ferra be part of an ancient race that has been forgotten? Could the Jungle's ruins be what is left of her civilization? Is Ferra really the Queen?
Paying attention to more surroundings, it looks like more graphic evidence may exist either conveying this race as a very vicious threat or perhaps having the ability to control other beings. On the same pillar, a very creature-like depiction. The giant stone head on the ground also looks like a depiction of an imp's head. Very much like a runt and exaggerated features. Very interesting..
Thoughts? Could the Jungle belong to Ferra and her race? Is Torr just an unwilling victim? Is he a bigger character? Although very unlikely, could Torr be Shao Kahn? Whatever your theory, I want to hear it.
I am terribly sorry if this is old news.

Good eye dude. I immediately saw the resemblance from that statues head gear when you posted that still shot. Not only that but the person in that statue also appears very small, much like Ferra. I think you might be on to something here.

Sounds plausible.

I have a feeling that maybe Ferra is part of the same race as Kotal because they both have some exotic features to them, but that might avert the whole 'dwarf' thing. Then there is D'vorah, how many forgotten races can there be?

Boon did say in the IGN article that a lot of these new characters came into power, so you may be on to something here.

Same race, perhaps? You should know that not everyone of the same race look exactly alike. :P

Great find Casselman!
I can dig Ferra being a queen. These new character story arcs are sounding more and more interesting.

Kotal, Ferra, and Torr all being whatever it is that the jungle temple belongs to? Could be but that seems a bit...I don't know boring for MK? I'm not sure of exactly how to phrase it. Same race, perhaps? You should know that not everyone of the same race look exactly alike. :P
I wonder if they're the race and Kotal was their god.

I was ready to write this off as some crazy theory.. but dude that head gear is nearly unmistakable. Good work. The shao kahn theory is a bit of a stretch. But it seems like you cracked this one.
Do you mind if I tweet this at boon? If you have a twitter you should.
