Ok, I woke up, literally like ten minutes before this was posted and had a really interesting concept for how MK8's fighting mechanism should look. What if Real-World physics were worked into MK? You'd have opponents who are able to recover if a Fatality or other finishing move isn't performed, and even after a fatality command is inputed, the opponents could counter it.

This is such a system I have devised. And here's how it works:

First off, we eliminate the Round system. This new system would make the matches more realistic in approach.

The Lifebars will be designed in such a way that they are depleted rapidly and as usual when they are completely gone, the words "finish Him/Her" appear. But here's the catch, if the winner so chooses to input a fatality command(yes, we're bringing back character-specific fatalities for this one), but fails to do so within ten seconds, the opponent would regain half his lifebar and the fight would resume(a sort of return of the Mercy from MK3, but not entirely). And if the Fatality is successfully completed, the opponent has ONE chance to counter the fatality in a "cineractive" style(Akin to what occurs in the Spider-Man 3 Video Game(360/PS3 versions)), where after the fatality is successfully inputed, the animations would begin and for one second, a button will flash. If the opponent hits that button, then like with the "Finish Him/Her" situation, the opponent would regain half their Lifebar, but if either the victor hits the button, or no one hits it, then the fatality continues on. Now as far as the regaining Lifebar goes.. it can happen multiple times, but the opponent only regains half of what they started with. So if it happens twice, then the third restart, the opponent begins with 1/4 of their original Life. Also, to make it more fair to the winner, the time for Fatality commands increases by 5 seconds per restart.

it's kinda complicated, I know but if you made it this far and understood everything I said, please let me know what you think

Seems like your idea works similar to Killer Instinct.

My humble ideas:

CHARACTER OVE PROPERTIES
Assuming that martial arts would still be relevant to the characters in MK8,
we neeed the following: move properties, body properties.

Each move will have two dimensions and two properties: depth, length, strengh, speed. theese fours will calculate the hit properties. If it is done,
here are the body properties. Where does it hit? Each bodypart will have several variables for every type of attack. If the variable matches the body-parts damage, it can be either damaging undamaging, crucial or slightly
dangerous.

Each bodypart reacts thus in different manner to each different attack. Up-hand horizontal block will be sewerly damaging against an axe kick, while
would work against chops.

DIFFERENT KINDS OF DEFENSE: parry (sweep aside the attacks, would also depend on properties wether this is possible or not), block (stand in full force into the attack, rarely used in martial arts leaves you immobile),
or avoid the atack simply by outmoving the impact.

REAL MECHANICS
So leave the senseless spinning flying around as it only takes and eats up memory. Punches should not send you flying through the roof. Use pixels in shaded form for blood spray. Amazingly this could work well will 3D environs.

Also, avoid exaggerated damages. Implement breaks and implement LIMB SPECIFIC BUTTONS. If for example you have broken your left arm, you will use the X for only BROKEN SPECIFIC movements (flail around with the wrecked limb, in cases like shokans it would require doubles, and in cases like inhuman abominations like Moloch it would have little mea-ning to stop them or give them pause).

Steal the Tekken 5 move properties tabulature if you must, just have PROPERTIES. Everything else, including Scorpion is irrelevant to that.

I like the idea of removing the round system. It doesn't make sense to beat someone senseless and have him up and about next round.

However, I don't like the idea about having to perform a fatality every single time to win the match. I don't care wether they are character specific or not but a fatality every single time becomes mind numbing soon.

Well, the idea I had in mind was that it'd be some sort of cinematic event that was also interactive. And as a partial Edit, the whole Regaining half health after every Finish Him/Her would only happen twice per match, so after the third time, the victor has about 30 seconds which I believe is normal, to do any sort of finishing move\

Baraka407 and I worked on an MK8 mechanism (gameplay engine and schematics) in my fan submission:

It needs some editing.
