Just finished watching a compilation of the character endings on youtube. The story mode left me wanting a bit more and I was hoping to glean something from the individual character endings. One of the things I enjoyed about these endings as compared to the ones in previous games was that there was some consistency between them. For example, based on convergent evidence, it seems like Jax dies, Kenshi and Takeda take out the Red Dragon, etc.

If most of these endings end up being canon, they have a lot of interesting repercussions. The Ermac ending was particularly interesting. I always thought of him as a poor man's Shang Tsung. I always thought that Shang must have thousands of souls compared to the limited number that comprised Ermac. I think its a cool idea for them to fuse Ermac and Shang, hopefully leading to some kind of an uber-Shang returning for the next game. It seems like the roles of the good guys and bad guys might flip going forward. It seems like Raiden and Liu Kang are going to be taking up evil roles. That would be interesting to see some of the former bad guys to turn good such as Shang Tsung.

Some of the endings seem obviously non-canon, such as Reptile's or Devorah's endings. I think its always very hard to predict the course of the next game based on these types of endings but it at least makes for interest discussion.

You know what I'd like to see ? Kotal's ending ends up being canon and the next game, we defend outworld from Dark Raiden's invasion.

Everyone's complaining about that all evil guys like ermac or reptile do is to job to the good guys. In this game, they finally kick some eartly butt.

I liked how they treated them how endings used to be in Deception and Deadly alliance and went about them as if they were epilogues to the story mode.
And these ones certainly hold a lot more weight to them than simply being contradictory what if endings. For the most part.

I do however think some wont be canon like Takedas when that could be treated as a strong character story to be explored in future games.
The same goes for Eron Black and him seeking revenge on the Special Forces youngsters.

For the love of god! Vogel, you hack! Let Reptile's ending be canon! For once let this guy have a happy moment and regain some hope!

However, there were still some that made no sense or were fucking stupid such as.
Liu Kangs - Why would he do that when he was freed from Quan Chi? Why would that makes sense for his character at all Vogel?

Quan Chi- He is the master planner or MK. Yeah i get you wanted to acknowledged those who were fed up with him always being five steps ahead of everyone else but, how he deteriorated over the story and his lack luster ending just make no sense at all for his character.

Kitana - Well, I mean it's sort of nice but at the same time felt like a huuuuge middle finger.

Kung Lao - So wait Revenant's can just be talked out of the spell?

Without spoiling anything, can anyone tell me if Sonya appears in anyone else's endings? Or if she's mentioned in any of them?

Not that I can recall no.

It didn't feel like a lot of thought was put into most of these. Kitana takes over the Pissed Off At Raiden mantle; Liu rules the Netherealm, Shinnok takes over Earth, Reptile supposedly discovers his people...eh. Sub-Zero in HTTYD 3; LOL.
However, Ermac's ending definitely sucked. C'mon, Shang Tsung takes all his souls just like that? Jesus. He just got treated like garbage by NRS in the game overall and I'm not happy about it.

Kano's was flat-out stupid. Great, another friggin' offspring, which I called from the instant I saw the guy tied up in the chair. Make it stop.

Erron Black's (while not canon, obviously) was definitely the most satisfying to watch, with him handing the Special Farces their butts on a silver platter.

Kotal Kahn's ending was my favorite by far. Old-school MK at its finest. I'm hoping it's carried over into the next game in some way, shape or form. It would be nice to see a Mortal Kombat tourney from Outworld's perspective for a change instead of the usual Earthrealm SOS. And the possibility of Kahn having his own band of warriors to go up against Raiden, as shown in that last frame...HUGE mark-out moment for me.

It's also the least NRS can do after shoving those guys (save for Kahn) aside in the story mode.

Once I played through with Sub-Zero and saw his fucking lame ass "Sub-Zero decides to intiate How To Train Your Dragon 3" ending, I had zero hope for any other character's ending, so I haven't cared enough to do the Klassic tower with anyone else. After all the setup, after the peace Sub-Zero and Scorpion make in Story Mode, after the non-canon MK9 ending where Sub-Zero and Scorpion become the "new deadly alliance", they give Sub-Zero a lame ass ending where he decides to write and star in How To Train Your Dragon 3.

Why couldn't Sub-Zero's ending be all about looking for his brother, if he's still alive after being thrown into the soulnado?

Liu Kang's and Kitana's endings would've been better off about them freeing Edenia. And Liu decides to give up his title and rule alongside her as their new king.

As for Ermac's.... true the souls within it are consumed by the reborn Shang Tsung, but why can't they have Ermac be controlled by King Jerrod!?

I feel like some of these endings were supposed to be tied in with story mode more solidly, but the artwork done for them used their default costumes as reference, so they weren't a perfect translation...

Kitana's acknowledges the fact she's still dead, and her living self is a dream.

Liu Kang's basically fits with what we see in story mode if you just ignore the fact that the artwork shows living old-man Liu Kang. Pretend it's Revenant Liu in the artwork, and it pretty much makes sense.

And there are a few of them where Raiden acts as though Dark Raiden would (including his own) but the artwork still shows normal Raiden.

Kung Lao/Kung Jin's also show living Kung Lao, even though they don't seem to contradict the story, or the fact that Kung Lao should still be dead.

And some of them are actually continuations of eachother, which past games have done (Reptile/Nitara/Cyrax in DA. Jarek/Sonya/Jax in MK4, etc)... Kung Jin's leads into Kung Laos, Takeda's leads into Kenshis, and Erron Black's sort of leads into Jax's.

Come to think of it Erron's and Jax's could even tie in with Sonya's. (Nutshell versions: Erron's ending is he ambushes the new young heroes and guns them down, Jax's ending is he leaps in front of Erron's gunfire and blocks the shots with his arms, saving the younglings, but taking a bullet himself. Sonya's ending is she has a dream about Jax getting shot, and wakes up to a phonecall that Jax has been shot in real life.)

In any event I COULD see WAY more of them being canon this time than usual. And certainly more than MK9, MK9's endings sucked, because most of them relied on the hero killing Shao Kahn, and directly contradicted story mode (their timing was also ill-defined. Did they take place during MK2? MK3? Who the hell knew?) You knew immediately upon viewing most of them that they couldn't happen.

This time most, if not all of them COULD happen.

Some of them however, are still stupid, and shouldn't happen, lol.

I just reeeaaallyyyyy hope Shang comes back strong either as DLC for MKX or in MK11. There's so many interesting directions they could take him in with the state the realms are in at the end of story mode, especially if they go down the Dark Raiden invading Outworld road. If Ermac's ending turns out to be canon, I wonder where it will leave him after Shang drained a lot of his souls.

So a scenario that involves Mr. Tsung that I could see happening in MK11 is Raiden becomes a tyrant ruler and invades Outworld, then Kotal gets the Elder Gods to invoke the MK tournament. Maybe Cassie's team and some special forces flee to Outworld (or another realm, where they would meet some other 3d era characters, and they would make their way to Outworld from there). Idk exactly how it would work but I would love to see Shang have to step up and lead the heroes against Raiden in a role reversal kind of like his MK9 ending. Maybe Raiden kills some of the heroes for standing up to him so there's not many options for a leader (I don't really want to see Cassie lead a big resistance honestly, I think she totally could, it just isn't as interesting to me as Shang, who has hundreds of years of personal experience with Raiden, Shao Kahn, and the MK tournies). Although he might just want his old comfy position as host of the tournament back lol, but I don't think Kotal or Raiden would trust him. Dang he could take the team to his island to serve as a base of operations and he could find the army of Mileena clones and maybe we could get a goodish Mileena on the team too.

Quan chi's ending was very interesting new champion of the elder gods? Or have the gods been corrupted. I think this maybe a hint as to where the story is going
