Like on a scale of one to ten, just based on your pure instincts, will MK9 be the best, the worst, or more of the same, given all the things that's been going on with the MK team?

It could go either way really. I'm confident that it'll be good. Storywise, given MKA, it could be a disaster. I believe they are serious about the change for MK though and will wait to see what they produce. Gameplay wise, I think they've done their homework and tests (MK vs DCU being the biggest one, imo) and have had enough feedback from the fans to make the game decent. It's up to them now to deliver now.

With the performance of primary competitors, especially Street Fighter, I'm sure we'll get the most solid MK to date in terms of gameplay.

Boon hinted that it isn't going to play as much like MKvsDC as we previously thought, which if nothing else, shows just how drastically the fighting genre has changed over the last year and half. They know what standards they have to meet; it's just a matter creative direction now.

Looks like 8 more days till we know more info.

What's happening in 8 days? sorry, havn't been on the boards for a while.

Anyway I really hope it turns out good. I've kind of noticed that the engine a certain MK game uses gets better after each game. i.e MK1, MK2..then MKDA, then MKD. Hopefully MK9 will follow that, basically an upgraded and improved version of MKDC. So gameplay wise should be good (hopefully).

No idea what there gonna do storywise, something drastic obviously. We'll soon find out anyway! wink

Personally, I have higher expectations this time, because the MK team is being given two things they have needed for years: new management and time. The new management aspect results are yet to be determined, but they have to be at least a little bit better than the insane restraints Midway put on them (an MK game a year, really?).
That brings the time factor in. The MK team is (finally) being given a decent amount of time to complete a game. I think given ample time, the MK team can really shine. Look what they did with the insane time constraints they were given before. Yes there were glitches, and there were some instances where they appeared lazy (sharing poses, etc). I honestly believe that most of these problems were due to the time constraints. Now that they have some time to complete a game, I have some pretty high hopes that they can really impress.

Story? That's another matter. We will see on that one.

I'm hopeful that the gameplay will be fantastic.
The story will suck balls, as usual.

I'm looking forward to it, I'll say that much.

I think the gameplay will be unusually fun this go round. Could be based on how I liked MKvsDC but, that's what I think. They have time, and fresh minds on it. Like Skaven mentioned, look at what they were capable of with Midways constraints. They at least have a solid base to step from with the last game.

For the story, I am pretty skeptical. There's always alot of potential in every game, and what we're used to is them squandering alot of it for whatever reason. They exploit only a fraction of the story element in each game, and alot of the ideas are never fully fleshed out.

I think in order to "fix" alot of the story stuff, I want to see them explain things again from the ground up. The characters, the contests, any threats, ect.

Yep, that's my theory anyways.

BTW, I was thinking about how the success of SF4 is going to affect the development of MK8, and something hit me: Street Fighter 4 made sure to include every Street Fighter II character as an emblem of fan service; does anyone think MK8 will include every character from MKII to signify the same?
