He's referring that Deception did more than the games previous to it and not implying that MKX will have less then Deception.

Anyways, if you are correct, kudos to you. We'll just have to ponder on it for now.

In the end when all is said and done, with DLC and everything else, there will be more classic characters than completely new ones. I think 2/3's will be old, 1/3rd new.

The thing about Ed is that he is not always sure about what he says on the spot in an interview, I think he might get nervous as to not to answer the questions going further than he needs to because of WB breathing down his neck trying to keep everything a fucking area 51 secret.

This. I too was hoping to see a slew of new characters take the MK reins, but I'd be happy with seeing some MK4-D faces get the Stryker-treatment for MKX.

I'm not sure what you guys are worried about.

I'll guess 8 new characters playable. We already have 4(not counting Ferra) revealed. Which I feel is decent. I certainly wouldn't expect anything over 10. With 8 new characters, that leaves plenty of room for both MK1-3 favorites and MK4-D re-debuts.

Does anyone have an exact number of character's not killed in MK9? that could be a jumping off point to determine a rough estimate of the character layout for MKX.

I am still subscribing to the idea that MK9 was an actual REBOOT and NRS is taking the series in a NEW direction with the MK1-3 character's and a handful of post UMK3 character's that have story driven ties.

If my theory is correct:

The cast that is alive will return (minus Sheeva, story cameo only) Liu from the dead category will come back to replace her.

That is 13 returning cast from MK9 + subzero = 14 +8 new character's =22

The remaining 2 spots will be Shinnok and Fujin/Tanya

It's definitely a reboot, and is going in a new direction. The whole "timeline back to the future" plot line was just a way to explain why we were starting over. I certainly don't see the events of DA-MKA being played out again. The story takes place over 25 years, so clearly things will be far different and new when it's all said and done.

I see between 8 and 11 new faces in MKX.. As for MK9 returnees, I think Sheeva, one cyborg (personally I hope it's Cyrax), and Baraka (if not in the game he has high chances of being DLC) won't return. The rest, we shall see.

For that reason I think NRS is glad to leave behind the events and majority of character's from MK4-A. Especially MKDA-A

Definitely contradicts his earlier statement of having "the most new characters of any Mortal Kombat game." But then again, he also said they never had parent/child fatalities before (Kitana & Sindel, anyone?) in that same E3 interview.

Maybe now he has his facts a bit more together, and the "maybe Deception had more" line is the actual truth. If it is, I'm glad. Loves me some of the MK4 gang.

Deadly Alliance had more new characters then Deception so I think Ed just got forgot about how many new characters each entry to the franchise introduces. He also said that it looks about right that the roster is half and half in a tweet. Regardless I think we are going to see plenty of new chracters.

I don't see both Cyrax and Sektor making it in. Maybe one, maybe neither, but I was thinking one or both could be DLC. Also, I could see a couple of living characters become DLC in the future, so there will be more than 2 spots open for the MK4+ characters.

I don't think there will be only 24 main roster characters either. I remember someone asking Ed about the character select screen and he replied saying something, which lead someone to believe he was referring to putting the boxes together, then see how many you can fit. When that person did put them together, they estimated that it could fit 4 more (maybe 8 more) characters.

Which video game conference/s do you guys think Ed Boon will show up next after BGS?

That was a pretty damn good interview. Not a single sight of "Where do you come up with the fatality ideas" that every casual personnel loves to ask with same expected answer..
