Back for blocking attacks

It adds more strategy to the fights and enables countering opportunities.
Pressing a button to block doesnt work that well.
It might seem like a minor thing but in reality its massive.

Nah. I think the block button should stay. It's one of the key features that always separated MK from other fighters. It would feel a bit odd if they just took that away. But if they do take it away, I wouldnt cry over it....but it would still feel a bit un-MK.

i would not hate the idea but it would be odd.
Keep the block button, but howabout a weak neutral block too. That way characters can have a few (generally fast) moves that will be blocked when the opponent is in neutral guard, but will work when the guard is dropped to make moves. The neutral guard would not drop for all moves.
I've always enjoyed the block button, but I hated how you can block projectiles... I mean seriously, do you think in real life you can block someone throwing ice at you? Obviously not. I think characters should react differently when blocking a projectile.

I agree. So many 2D fighters use the back block. I do think MK9 should be 2D, and have some similarties to Street Fighter 4 but I keep hearing people wanting a back block, a super meter, and projectiles canceling out. By that point it's not MK any more. It's just another Japaneese 2D fighter. To me MK should always have two things the uppercut, and the block button. Those two things alone seperate it from Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, MvsC, BlazBlue, and King of Fighters. And so what if it isn't perfect for Pro gamers, because i would be hard pressed to say that it's not fun.

The block button is superior to using back for block, because it gives the player more control. You may well want to step back and not block.

They already have this with the "breaker" moves. It's a small block to cut off your opponents attack, but instead of pushing back, you push forward while holding the block button.
