Among the many things MK needs to improve on, I think the atmosphere and the violence need to get kicked up a notch...

UMK3, MK4, and MKD nailed this perfectly, and is part of the reason why they're my favorites in the series...

The first word that comes to mind when describing these games is just 'brutal', and that's what MK needs to go back to!

None of that funny stuff unless it's part of a sadistic fatality! Instead of these complicated gimnastics-lookin' combos, bring back the neck twisting, arm-breakin, knee-busting stuff! Voice actors need to sound like they're in actual pain, instead of just messin around!

The soundtrack plays a big part also in my opinion. MKD has the best one by far, and I would like to see some of those themes return, such as the Lwer Mines, Slaughterhouse's. The "SUPERB!" announcer guy thing should be brought back as well, that was pretty intense.

But yeah, overall, I think MK needs to get back that creepy, brutal & intense feel it used to have, stop messin around and actually get serious about this!

I wonder if the mk art team actually knows what blood & guts is supposed to look like?

Judging from past games, it looks like they don't have a clue.

Mk2 had it down perfect imo.
The atmosphere, the blood and guts looked convincing. The sound set the game perfectly.Let's get back to that feeling.

I completley agree with the subject. Mortal Kombat needs some type of scary element to it now more than ever.

Disagree.

MK2 did it. But I'mma old foggie so, to each his own.

Agree somewhat.

MK's butal edge has been dulled a bit...it's either that or we're desensitized to what should be considered brutal. MkvsDc wasn't terrible on making every punch feel and sound brutal though. So I think they may be on to something if they go harder from there.

Disagree.

I hated MK4 for this very sort of thing. Twisting a limb has never bode well in a
game to me. Now, ripping or snapping? Yea...

Agree.

MKD's soundtrack was awesome. Again, MkvsDc didn't do horribly, it was just campy as all hell because they pandered more to the DC characters than they did to MK. MkvsDc sounded wonderful for a DC game though. If I was a stout DC fan, I'd be completely happy with its sound stuff.

Also, the voice matching in MkvsDc was great save Shang Tsung. The scripting, and some of the acting was childish though.

Agree somewhat.

It can't "go back" it has to move forward from where it was x-years ago. This game should be scary to play through. Gimme a nightmare. Surreal fantasy element, realistic characters, and a gripping story to boot. All other elements should co-operate with that.

Gameplay could use a martial arts choreographed theme. And depending on the character we're playing with, it should pander to that unique character, but not escape the overall gameplay theme.
