An open-world konquest mode
An open-world konquest mode
All the realms of the MK universe are fascinating, and it'd be awesome to fully explore them. So why not an open-world "konquest" mode?
It wouldn't have any story in particular, though there'd be mini-quests, that would allow players to unlock bonuses, like extra characters, or arenas, or rupees that allow you to buy extra content in a krypt. You could create an avatar character of either gender, and any races from the MK universe. The reactions of the people you encounter would differ based on your character's species/gender.
All the realms should be much larger than they were in MKD's konquest mode. So large, that the best way, and sometimes the only way, to reach a specific area within a realm would be to use portals or teleportation, or vehicles.
I realize it'd probably be too much work to include that alongside the main game, and in fact would probably be better off as a spin-off game, but nonetheless, it could be so enjoyable if done right.

YASSSS, i want this aswell. The konquest mode was one of the the best modes ever. I loved to see the different worlds.

Not as a mode in MKX, no.
I would much rather have a whole other game be like this though. I have since MK: Armageddon wanted an MMO or something alike to happen. The adventure games are possibly the closest thing to this concept though.

That would take a lot out of the fighting imo. Although i would welcome the idea, maybe a different game would be needed for it to be fully exploited. Like the MKD Konquest, but more action oriented. The exploration side of it would require for it to be separate from the MK one on one fighting aspects.
The only reasonable solution would be to redo the Mzthologies game plan: make a game a la Shaolin Monks concerning the given character.
Though with the original timeline being moved away from, actually a free roaming game concerning post-Kahn Outworld could be fun.

Mortal Kombat is a multimedia franchise. A lot of us want more Adventure or RPG spinoffs.
Konquest modes really shouldn't be done as part of the fighting games anymore, though. They should be their own games.

Yeah I'd take a successor to Shaolin Monks, or maybe something more RPG-like where you create your own hero/villain.

Agreed, would love to see an Open Realm MK RPG. If we can get get 3 developers making Arkham games, WB should get one to do a MK spinoff. Would be cool to see the devs from Shadow of Mordor do it for their next game.

Yes of course, I keep forgetting about Unchained but it's the same game just with more characters, right? If so, then heck yes!

I recognize that Mortal Kombat is larger than the fighting games and I too would like another adventure spin off.
I love all things Mortal Kombat, however if Mortal Kombat were manifested as nothing but fighting games in the future I would live happily. Being that the fighting games are essentially all that is left of the "multimedia franchise" I think others probably will survive too.
No in game open-world konquest mode. Give me more arenas, combos, air combat, fatalities, characters, costumes, costume details, or anything that will enhance my fighting game experience. Don't 80/20 my game.

It sounds like that's what people want.
And for good reason, to really explore the realms in full detail would be a massive project.

I'd rather MKX just sticks to being a fighting game but I'd dig another adventure game, or an RPG would be awesome.
Imagine being able to make a new Tarkatan, Shokan, Centaur or Saurian character! Maybe set it in the past and be able to Join the ranks of Shao Kahns army, or just explore the different realms and interact with different MK characters. Fun!

As fun as I think that would be, I think it would be best if they stuck with their previous formula and gave you the characters to choose from. I think that this would give them a great opportunity to explore some of the characters stories and experience their relationships with others.
Imagine the game DC Universe Online, but as MK-Universe Online. Wow, that would be amazing.
I've always wanted a "MK Mythologies: Scorpion" as well. With today's technology, it would look like God of War!
Remember that Ed Boon mentioned there would be a new game mode that "everyone" was a part of. That sounds a lot like an MMO to me

It looks like the "story mode" is here to stay for the fighting games and I think that's the way it should be. With new-gen tech and professional voice actors, the MK team can tell a visually beautiful and cohesive story. That being said, I'd love to see another team under WB get a crack at making an MK adventure game in the vein of Shaolin Monks and the konquest modes from MKD and MKA. Ed Boon wouldn't have to head the project, but I'd like him to oversee it in order to keep continuity in check.

From the replies I've read so far there clearly seems to be a demand for this kind of game. And from the studio's point of view it makes sense too. There seems to be an established window of about 2-3 years to make a decent fighting game. At the moment we seem to be getting those games in 2 year increments: MK 2011, Injustice 2013, MKX 2015. In my opinion NRS should follow the Star Wars model and release spin-off games in those years when we dont have a new fighting game.
To demonstrate here is the release schedule for the next six Star Wars movies:
Episode 7: 2015
Untitled Star Wars spin-off 1: 2016
Episode 8: 2017
Untitled Star Wars spin-off 2: 2018
Episode 9: 2019
Untitled Star Wars spin-off 3: 2020.
Now if NRS was to follow a similar strategy:
MKX: 2015
MK adventure spin-off: 2016
Injustice 2: 2017
DC related spin-off game: 2018
MKXI: 2019
And so on...
Clearly MK isn't as big a name as Star Wars, but to videogamers it is one of the worlds most popular franchises, so i think the same marketing principles apply.
Thoughts?
