I mean it's dark as hell and reminds me a lot of Deception which I really really liked back in the day. Now I haven't seen the whole story since the streamers are being kept reported so I'll have to wait for the release day for an actual judgement, but still, I like what I'm seeing. :)

Of course not! I loved it too and also had that dark deception feel. So glad Shinnok came back!

Most of the people that hate it just wanted it to go the way they wanted it so they whine about it =)

Nope from what I've seen so far I'm enjoying it as well though there are some things that I wish were better, like more characters getting a chapter etc but yeah so far its pretty good imo.

Haven't seen it so i couldn't tell yeah.
I felt like Deception's was better since it had some more original story hooks going on and just more events going on all around the realms in general. Everyone got at least two bios and showed up in Konquest and you got to see what they were up to.

This is better in a cinematic way, but Deception was more fun with it's story I think. MKX's isn't bad though.
I guess the reasons why most of the people who watched parts of the Story Mode (including the ending) didn't like it are:

[Story Mode spoilers]
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
- Having less chapters than MK9
- Doesn't have chapters for Liu Kang, Kitana, Kung Lao and a few others.
- Kitana, Kung Lao and Liu Kang don't get back to life at all. If they don't have a chapter and don't come back to life, what's the point of them being in the roster? People are angry cuz characters like Tanya and Rain ACTUALLY have a major participation in the story, like you fight Tanya twice?? When Ferra/Torr only appear once.
- Special Forces being heavily used in the game (roster and Story Mode, like... Johnny, Kung Jin, Sonya, Takeda, Jax, Jacqui and Cassie have chapters, that's 7 of 12 chapters, more than 50% of the Story Mode). SF haters won't like it at all. It didn't bother me tho.
- Ed hinting at the boss being a fun surprise returning character, which would be very obvious if it was Shinnok because of MK9's ending. And it was him. Not surprising at all.
- People actually getting hyped with the comics showing Reiko and Havik stuff and the Story Mode doesn't have anything to do with the comics, even the kamidogus dont have a role from what I saw. Basically they only mention the "Reiko Accord", which is basically the Sonya and Kotal agreement in keep peace between Earthrealm and Outworld.
- Dark Raiden route perhaps? Dunno what to think about this one.

I guess people didn't hate ~THE STORY MODE~, it's just like the way it was presented this time.

But hey, that's just my thought.

There are decent improvements in it compared to MK9. It is still cheezy though.

It lacks balls for one thing, MK9 dared to retell the story and go all bonkers with it. Yeah, it was mind bogglingly stupid, but at least the initiative was there. Preferential treatment of characters and the general disregard and callousness towards the second part of the games is a sore point for me tho.

Also the inconsistencies with its own source material, like the comics....
Again, mediocre story that is acted well at least.

People who don't appreciate the Story mode are spoiled brats. Once again, in terms of plot, MK outdid itself and put all other fighting franchises to shame.

It's a fighting game and gameplay comes first. It's the roster that makes the story and not the other way around. I still find it amusing that such a simple fact is so hard for some people to understand it.

Liu, Kung and Kitty are amazing and they don't have to be playable in the Story. Some people whined that the dead should stay dead, because the easy resurrections undermine death in MK. Well, there you have it -- most of the people who died in MK9 are still (un)dead. You got what you wanted and I got my precious Kung and Kitty as playable characters.

It's a win-win scenario. Everybody should be happy, but oh well. The game has more serious flaws than its Story mode. The Story mode is a 2-hour ride, relatively short entertainment, compared to the anger some of us will experience in the next 2 years, when we'll have to see the same dozen of stages over and over again.

Since this game is a new version of Mortal Kombat 4 I think the story is great.

The original MK4 had only 15 characters and now we have 25, with a lot of new and interesting faces.

What if the Mortal Kombat X comics are actually building up to becoming the story for MK11?!

wow
It's alright. Could've been longer though with chapters for Erron, Ermac, Ferra/Torr and Reptile.

Kotal and D'Vorah had chapters devoted to them so more would've been appreciated.

I havent seen past scorpions chapter, the only thing that bothered me was the flashbacks i didnt like them but i get why they incorporated them. Also not really story mode but there could be more stages they get repetitive in the story mode.

Having not watched the story I cautiously unveiled these spoilers one at a time and...this is why people are angry? THIS?! Hahahahaha. Thank god because here I was getting worried the story was super shitty. Turns out it's just real petty whining.

As a general rule - if the greater majority of the MK "Kommunity" is bitching about the story mode and saying it sucks...then it means that the story mode is probably EXCELLENT. It's just too complex/mature for the average MK player.
