I don't understand how more people aren't complaining about this more often, medium mode is a walk in the park and hard mode is broken hard. I just watched my friend who hasn't played MK since the first one clear most of a traditional tower with no level of skill required. I find medium mode too easy to play most of the time. Yet when I switch to hard mode I find the game so frustratingly difficult that I want to brake my controller. I have beaten the towers on hard mode a few times, but I don't get much pleasure in playing them.
Corrupted Shinnok on hard mode is enough to give anyone grey hair. Enemies pretty much always know what you are going to do: grab and they dodge back, throw a projectile and they block, jump punch and they jump punch faster. The AI literally goes from novice to expert. Didn't anyone game test this? The "impossible tower" was just the game on hard mode.
Medium mode needs to be improved in the next patch to make the game feel appropriately challenging.

so the game is broke because you suck at it? just kidding, but anyway, I was fighting bots on hard on realease night.. I like to sit down for a very hard tower . I'll lose 3 or 4 times if I don't get romped by corrupted shinnok too many times. I think the A.I. is great, being so tough makes for a lot of replay value especially if you don't play online much. So the game is broken because hard mode is hard?

I see what you're saying, but it's not that hard really.
There is a drastic drop off from Normal to Hard. But for me, Hard doesn't really get challenging until the 7th or 8th fight. By then they know my setups and tricks, so I have to be inventive. But even still, the AI makes some predictable moves. I'd say it's fine as is.
It's not nearly as soulcrushingly difficult as MK2 and not as braindead easy as MK9. For me it's a good balance.

The jump from medium to hard is noticeable at first, but just stick with it, it actually becomes fun once you get the hang of it. Medium pretty much lets you win, hard and very hard just aren't as forgiving, as their names might suggest

Isnt that what hard mode is supposed to be? Frustrating and hard?

I remember when expert on MK9 was balls to the walls hard as fuck. A month or 2 go by and it's easy as fuck. Give it time, you'll learn the ropes and earn your stripes.

Some of you seemed to miss my final point that medium mode needs to be harder. That's the only thing I said NRS needs to fix. That being said, I still think the the AI's response time on hard mode is still unrealistically good compared to vs someone online. And corrupted Shinnok on hard is ridiculous.

MK`s A.I. has always been programmed to respond certain ways to certain move inputs. Welcome to the 90`s...
For instance, jump kick at the A.I. Liu Kang, he`ll always air fireball you. Or Kitana will air fan toss at you, unles you`re close, then she fan lifts when you jump at her.
Look through the classic forums for gameplay tips to remedy this.

I have over 2500 matches offline, several hundred of which were in hard mode. It's not a matter of practicing more. The disparity in difficulty between medium and hard goes from being too easy to frustratingly difficult even when I win. Try playing Kotal Kahn sun god in a hard tower and tell me you didn't get pissed off.
But again, my hope is that NRS makes medium harder. My advice to you is to read better.

The best advice I can give is to keep playing on hard, don't do any towers with preset difficulties and stay on hard, you will get the hang of it. eventually hard wont be that bad, it will feel just right. Or at least that's how it played out for me.

You mean like single fights on hard mode? I've done that a lot actually. The fights are a lot more manageable than in the towers where I'm guessing either the difficulty keeps going up each fight or the ai adjusts to my play style.

if you have played that much and still play on medium/ struggle on hard then you do just suck.. Not to be that guy, I've played about half that and can thrash A.I on very hard with goro raiden and cage and lose 2 or three if I get stuck on corrupt shinnokBADASS6669 Wrote:

I don't even know how that's possible b-rad. But yes, I played it majority on medium to get krypt koins, and after I felt that was too easy I switched to hard. I fail to see how an ai that has immediate response time to all my attacks or a final boss that can non stop spam projectiles equals me sucking. I have completed traditional towers on hard mode, have beaten plenty of single fights on hard mode, and still find it cheap and frustrating to use.
Again, I am fine with a game that uses this level of difficulty on a higher setting, except the next level down is for beginners. Do any of you feel medium mode is actually moderate difficulty, ie the appropriate step down from hard mode? This is the issue I am complaining about.

I think that while medium could serve as a more effective midpoint, I can also see the desire to make the gap bigger. Doing so allows for a better sense of accomplishment once you've gotten to the point where hard is workable.

it's more than possible, its downright not that hard. The AI on very hard punishes you every time you give them a chance to. So if you use combos that are safe on block or don't finish a combo that isn't, you chip damage away (fisticuffs cage) I don't even know how that's possible b-rad. . if you do that and block well, punish when you get the chance and don't do some dumb YOLO shit, the round is always close at the end, then it comes down to landing a quick projectile or poke for cheese damage. I saw a YouTube video of a guy clear a very hard tower without dropping a round, so it's more than possible to cruise through a very hard tower without much trouble

Alright thats cool, but again, not really my point. If the game is this easy for you, then if anything, you should agree with me that medium needs to be buffed.

I wouldn't know, I started with hard . I remember mk9 medium being really easy, but then again so was expert. The first week I played very hard I was losing 4 or 5 times in A row before I would luck out and take two rounds before I lost 2 .. basically your gonna have to deal with getting face rolled by the bots when you step up in difficulty. If you wanna make some serious progress just do what I did and grind it out against very hard until you get to where you can hang with them. Once your consistent with very hard and you play someone that's not top notch online. That's when the flawless victories and quitalities start pouring inAlright thats cool, but again, not really my point. Hmmm after playing another hard tower and switching from Kotal Kahn Sun God to Scorpion Ninjutsu halfway through, I think part of the issue is character/ variation viability. Kotal Kahn sg is my favorite and I know the ins and outs of this variation, but the harder ai definitely capitalizes on his slow start ups and punishables without fail. Once I switched to Scorp, who I'm meh with, it was significantly easier up until Corrupted Shinnok.

I don't play as scorpion, but I have a hard time against AI with kotal kahn. But that's just cause I'm not as good with him. Characters with a good projectile game are your best bet if your having a hard time with bots. Jeeze, I've been maining him in hard to get really good with the character. The ai almost always ducks or dodges his god choke, and blocks/ jumps over/ teleports past his projectile, and forget about uppercutting with characters like Ermac.
