Would you guys be interested in a story/game without good-characters in it?

only Neutral and Evil characters?

Like evil won, but there are different layers of evil of course, causing serious riots, selfish lords to rise and chaos to spread.

Making it evil against evil with many neutral elements in the heat of battle.

I would be all for a game without heroes and saviors! Because in my opinion good only spoils a good storyline with their endless kindness... no human on this earth is that good, so its very unrealistic in a unrealistic game!

You know, most of the good characters don't behave the way you're describing, they just don't want their world to be turned into a shithole full of monsters and death. That's not unrealistic behavior at all.

It's really only Raiden and Liu that normally have a strict moral code, and in MK9, both of those were thrown out the window and they had very shady behavior at times.

Well Sonya, Jax, Stryker and Johnny are also the typical good-guys that are going to save the world against evil. Kitana is another one, at least she turned into one when she finally saw the light after 9.000 years...

I love Neutral characters getting in the way but the good versus evil has been around since the dawn of times. I think that in MK even an evil character would by default become good if he became the Hero of the story for the time being.

I highly doubt that making this all about Antiheroes for even only a game (Something i could end up loving) would connect with most of the gamers imo. This is not thrillers or Tarantino films.

I mean MK is the game where the heroes rip off your arms and crush your skull. The only real difference between good and bad in MK is what they're fighting for.

I would just like to see each realm attempt to conquer all and instead of outworld being the only evil realm I would like to see the netherrealm and chaos realm rise up for power. Game of thrones style.

Cause let's be real. "Evil" characters are never okay just being followers for the most part.. I want to see more plotting and strategy when it comes to these characters.

Evil characters that have other evil characters for enemies/rivals yes.

Do you have to eliminate the good from the storyline? No.

I just think that the "good" characters should come from a place of justified intentions fighting against the corrupted. and should face challenges that make it difficult and questions their integrity and morals during their journeys. Not just some one dimensional good moral compass routes. Raiden was heading in this direction.

Dude, if you were a fighter or soldier, and your country, in the real world, was attacked by another country, a country that just wanted to KILL all of your people and steal all of your resources and leave a smoking crater where your country used to be, what would you do?

WHAT is unrealistic about wanting to stop that?

Seriously, how is that too good or too typical or unrealistic?

Do you understand what would happen to the world if they DIDN'T try to save it? If you were them, would YOU want to live in a dead fucking wasteland where all of your friends and family are killed by monsters? Outworld is NOT a comfortable place where you'd be sitting pampered at home able to use the internet or buy food in a supermarket or a McDonalds. The way of life you are currently enjoying does not exist there.

Not to mention, some of the characters you listed have SELFISH secondary motivations.

Johnny Cage just wants publicity and to impress Sonya so she'll sleep with him.

Sonya joined the army to be like her dad. MOST people who join the military do it because they have a family member in the military, or because they need a JOB and the military pays really well and has benefits without requiring you have any prior training or talent. She only went to the tournament to get revenge on Kano for betraying her and killing some of her men.
Sub-Zero and Smoke just wanted to not be robots. Do you realize what automation involves? You are strapped down to an operating table whether you want it or not and a doctor mutilates you, scooping out organs and peeling off skin and replacing it with machines and metal plates and wires, and finally, they build a computer in your brain and MIND CONTROL you and tell you what to do and you have no choice in anything you do for the rest of your life unless the computer breaks or some GOOD guy comes along to change the programming.

I prefer grey area characters and in MK there are a big amount of those. A game without "good" guys would be a difficult story to tell IMO. What you get essentially is one guy trying to overthrow another guy, if he succeeds, you're right back to where you started. Neutral characters fight to kill a enemy or avenge a loved one/clan or for a price or for power. They have endless motivations other than to rule.

Even then these characters could turn "good" as we get to know more of their story and motivation.

A good guy is just a guy who the audience is on the same side of or agrees with.

Nitara is a good guy. Scorpion was a good guy in half of the games. A lot of people think Reptile is a good guy.

The only "Good" guys are occasionally Raiden and Liu Kang.

However, I would like a game written with less of a Good vs Evil mindset. Lin Kuei and Shirai Ryu are grey. Special Forces are grey. The Shokans are largely grey. Even Kenshi and Kung Lao are grey.

The setting of the first three games was largely a two sided, war-type affair, but now that that's all out of the way I'd like to see motivations that are more varied and character-specific, and not just huddling all the characters under one of two tents.

Good and evil are polarities. You can't have one without the other.

Poor you, DVorah, your wish will never be granted! Your conquest against the protectors of Earthrealm is doomed.

Still ignoring you, btw. Just wanted to say I'm happy that you'll never get the game you want. grin It'd be so boring... A bunch of baddies fighting for supremacy. Lame.

You probably won't get Bo Rai Cho, as he's rated 10, as worst character of all time wink

And we still didn't see ANY heroes in this game, so maybe they aren't in it. With Cassie Cage in, there is little hope for her parents, and the rest are dead as dodo's, so little luck for them. I like Cassie, unlike her mother.

So its all gonna get my way anyway, and it was just a question, nothing I have nightmares about not getting my hands on. I need some punching bags of course, and they are always good-guys.

Wishful thinking, huh? So many assumptions and yearning daydreams here...

I am strongly against that idea. Getting rid of good guys would ruin the story.
Plus I like the good characters better than the bad ones.

None for me, thanks. This is not GTA.

Plus, the good/neutral guys tend to get better reception from fans than evil ones. Otherwise Shang Tsung would be the face of the franchise and not Scorpion.

To me, whenever a character steps out of their default role and starts acting on greater principles, that character becomes substantially more interesting (Sub-Zero, Kitana, etc.). On flip side, whenever a character drifts away from a higher outside purpose for more selfish motives, that character often comes off dumb as hell (MKA Scorpion, and to an extent, MKD Kabal).

Without the good characters, there is no MK to me. Moral ambiguity is fine, but characters need to grow, and moral ambiguity not something that should ultimately define the character.

This is why it always drove me insane that Kenshi declined Cage's offer to fight Shinnok in MKA. What did Kenshi think was going to happen if Shinnok succeeded? Why did he think fighting criminals and fiends of the underworld was a higher goal than thwarting an invasion from a god?

I just think that I hate good characters because most good characters in MK are bland humans like Sonya and Cage.

While Baraka, Reptile, Nitara, Sektor, Mileena and everything else beastly and awesome is evil or neutral.

If anything, these peope are the same kind of bland like who you described.

Baraka, Reptile are grotesque jobbers without any other characteristic than going out there for their race.

Sektor... bland overambitious cyborg/robot whatever with no personality aside being loyal, then being "corrupted" and being a megalomaniacal tyrant who automatizes everything,

Mileena had nothing beside being a clone, aside MKD when she actually MANAGED TO ACCOMPLISH, and was actualy competent. But no, the cheap ass sexuality equals violent psycho template is better.... not.

MK is not the game where you want to look for personalities.

I was talking about LOOKS darling. I make up my own stories/personalities for the characters because Boon clearly can't give any love to the personages that really deserve it.

But one thing he does good, giving the evil characters awesome features and looks.

Well, guess what, Earthrealm is inhabited by boring humans who fight for their lives and freedom. The game is called Mortal Kombat for more than one reason.

If you want Freak-show/Alien Kombat, maybe you should try Primal Rage, Super Smash Bros and even Injustice.

Still happy that you're unhappy with MK. The moment MK becomes your type of game, this franchise is dead by hara-kiri.

What made you think I hate MK? I only like the human characters, but there are only few of those.

Try harder baby, I know you can do it!
