A 3rd Kung Lao?

Does anyone think they might bring yet another descendant of Kung Lao in this time around? Might me a little over doing it, having a third descendant, but I do remember reading somewhere that Boon said they want to bring back the top tier characters from MK9.

Since Lao was one of the main tops, and just so happens to be dead this time around, what do you think the chances might be of another hat throwing Shaolin Monk? Would you be opposed to it? They wouldn't even necessarily have to be named Kung Lao

Personally I think if they went this route, it would make the whole descendant thing played out a bit, and I am NOT for these re-skinned characters borrowing moves... but I would definitely choose it over having some undead ash warrior looking Quan Chi slaved Kung Lao in the game. Keep most of the dead, dead.

Instead of bringing back Lao, why not Bring back Kai and toss in a variation that is a throw back to Kung Lao himself (ex giving Kai the hat worn on his back or having him wear it) and give him some of Lao's specials while in possesion of the Hat,


Also maybe have Kai wear Liu Kang's bandana or pants and give him a Liu Kang variation with some of Kang's specials. That way we don't have to feel like we are getting a rehashed redundant use of the MK story.


Also it's a neat way to bring back Kai which I thought was a great MK4 character. Or it could simply be for an all new White Lotus Society memeber!

Eh, if they bring Kai back I hope they bring him back with all his own unique moves, I honestly hope the only character with "rip-off" moves will be Cassie.

With the way the story is now they can bring almost any character back and completely revamp them, I want to see Kai with 3 variations of his own. No move stealing.

An all new White Lotus though I'm down with, endless possibilities there, if the team gets creative enough with it.

Haha, very true, but the Kung Lao we know is a descendant of the Great Kung Lao (And/or reincarnate, whatever) so I'm sure the possibilities of him having some other form of family, brothers, cousins and what not wouldn't be too far fetched.

Maybe a little lame... but not too out there. Personally I'm not caring for all these siblings/kids things, a couple is good enough, but a distant relative or cousin wouldn't be too bad in my book.

Edit: Plus I'm pretty sure a descendant doesn't have to be the dudes son, just has to be blood.

Well he was always called the LAST descendant.

That generally means the only one left, the family tree has withered away and ends with him.

Ah see, I never knew that he was the last descendant... thanks for that bit Razor.

Well... either way I'd like to see some form of Kung Lao... if they bring back some of the dead as just DLC, that's cool with me too.

Did they call him the last descendant in MK9? I can't remember.

I wouldn't mind a new Kung Lao or another descendant of the Great Kung Lao or even just another White Lotus monk using the razor hat.

We don't need another known character suddenly inherit another character's abilities in some form of their variations. Kai shouldn't randomly get Kung Lao's hat. And I kinda wish people stop thinking that variations for characters can have other characters' abilities. That's not really the point of what they are.

Anyways, I think he's done for right now. I like this character, but I just don't see him returning. And since he's the last, well...

It's not completely out of the realm of possibility, they all received the same training, they are all White Lotus members. It was merely a suggestion which is why I also stated they could give past abilities to new blood. So we never really miss any characters that are left out smile

Sorry they feel that way? That doesn't necessarily bother me. Again it was just a suggestion if they bring back Kung Lao great if they don't that's fine too, If they find a way to get his moveset in MKX great, if not fine too. That's all I'm really saying.

I feel you man, but I was wondering, do you think that is Kai was in this game, do you think having another, all new White Lotus member in the game would somewhat take away from his character/spotlight? That just popped into my head.

A lot of people want Kai, myself included, so having a new White Lotus, though that would be cool, might be a little distracting.

I hate this of SUb-Zero and I don't want another character to follow that same cheap road.

The thing is though, variations shouldn't be a cheap way to throw in a non returning character's moveset to another character. Whether or not they've trained together doesn't mean both picked up hat throwing fighting style. Especially since we've already played as Kai before.

If there happens to be a new character that throws a hat, so be it. But I can't see any recurring character just randomly obtaining powers/abilities from other known characters just for the sake of having that particular ability/power in the game.

I really hope KungLao is not playable in the game. But I know alotta ppl love him, so I hope he is relevant in the story, for their sake. Since it was revealed that he IS The Great KungLao, maybe he takes BoRaiCho's place as trainer of champions?

I just rather Fujin be in the game, and there moves are too similar for me. Plus, I've always felt that the hat throw was ridiculous. LoL

I would be up for a female from the White Lotus to replace Kung Lao considering he is "dead". Give her all KL's specials and then some. All will be well smile

Well... it is a bit funny, getting hit with a razor-sharp hat, haha. But I mean it worked.

I'm sure they could make Fujin much different from Kung Lao, but yes, I would rather Lao remain dead... I just know NRS said something about top tier characters from MK9 returning, but I think he had his glory in MK9, most of the dead need to stay dead this time around.

And with character variations I STRONGLY hope they don't start giving new characters other caracters moves... that is just so tasteless and bland in my opinion.
I totally want another White Lotus Shoalin Monk.
