Recently i was thinking
Dont would be nice that the MK Team, using new technologies available this days make a full game all 2D, with digitalized cast?
Would be so sweet using High Punch, Low Punch again...

I'm on board with that, especially given the popularity that returning 2D fighter SF 4 has gained. I've especially gained more interest in 2D fighting after watching those amateur MK Bloodstorm videos on Youtube.
I would still love a free-roaming Konquest mode though.

Making 2D sprites with digitized actors would not work at all. They worked great with the low resolution games in the early 90s, but in high definition it would just look like some shitty flash game or something.

Idk man, it might also turn out like controllable movie CG if they did it right. Something like The Incredible Hulk movie.
The more I understand graphics, and then animation, the more a bridge between Digitized actors & CG seems possible concerning the debate over MK1-3 & MK4- MkvsDc.
So idk if it'd really work, but I might just have 'em try it. Maybe have a couple guys toy with one actor for two weeks. Long before beta, maybe during the beginning of conceptualizing. As long as the risk are minimal, and a plan was already there to do a full on graphics based game anyway, I can't see the trouble in testing the waters.
Best thing that could happen is they'd set the bar really high for everyone else again. Worst thing is they'd only spend a couple weeks on it.
I'm still not really sure about a full on 2D game either. I like what they did with MKvsDc on that front. Just needs to be tightened up a bit.
Digitizing actors somehow and not having the fighters look like plastic He-Man figures fighting it out, I believe, is one of the key reasons MK not what it used to be.
Not THE key reason, but one of them.
The realism needs to come back, and I am not sure they can achieve the past levels of realism without actors of some sort on screen.

There's actually a new fighting game coming out called Dark Presence that will use digitized graphics. We can only hope that MK would branch out and at least try it again, at some point.

No offense dude, but I seriously hope you're joking. That game looks absolutely awful. I usually don't judge a game by four screenshots, but seriously. I can honestly say that, from those four screenshots, this is going to be possibly the worst game ever made.
Edit: The last time there were any updates for this game was about a year ago, so i'd imagine it was canceled, thank God.

I don't know where you are seeing news about the game, because I don't see anything in the news section from 6/26/09, but I hope this game never hits the market.

I see it now. I'm gonna to have to find this half assed company and put a stop to this game.
Galloping Ghost must be stopped, no matter the cost. *cue Stan Bush's The Touch*
I....think ]{0MBAT's point was that the technology is being and can still be used in games, not his complete endorsement of this game.
Design aside, the graphic quality of digitized does look better now than it did back then. I think Midway should indeed explore this avenue again. More realism is what MK needs.

You can still go 2.5-d like SF4 using actors.
Just scan in the costumed actors like they do in sports games ( Smackdown, Tiger Woods, ect ).
Make 3d models and wrap them in the actor scans, which will give it the classic digitalized look but with 3D movement, so that fatalities can still be in 3D.

If I ever get my greenscreening studio up n running, I promise you, my shit will not look that cheap n corny.
Why would they HAVE to use current technology? You people n yer friggin HD bullshiggy. Kids are spoiled.
The BGs look wack, cartoony compared to the people. MK is one thing, but it is, like, 18 years old...
Anyhoo, I'm all for a new 2d MK. The greenscreening would be a bitch, but you could do multiple styles, and stage weapons with todays info capacity.
