Well, we've all had a taste of all of these with Mortal Kombat in some ways. Many would like for it to stay 2D, others would like the 3D to return. What would you guys prefer?

My, honestly, I would stick with 2.5D. I did enjoy the 3D games, but... I just feel like the games do much better with a 2D perspective and such. So, opinions, thoughts?

Figured we talk about something else other than the story and characters.

I think they should stick to 2.5, they need to be more consistent with the series. But on the other hand, what happens when we move to DA and D?

I think we should stick to 2.5D too...I think that the only decent 3D MK fighting wise (not being broken) was Deadly Alliance. But again, they stamped 3D games every two years,so maybe with more time and resources they would be able to challenge Tekken?

On a personal note,I want an adventure MK game, like Shaolin Monks...Fire And Ice maybe?

yea when i heard they were going to do something like that i was going crazy haha, too bad in didnt happen tho =/. otherwise, id like the 2.5d. it had the oldschool 2d feel and the newer 3d feel to it. they should stick with that in my opinion.

What do you mean 2.5D? Like MKvsDC?

MK is best when it's 2D. The 3D games felt awkward and very sluggish.

I prefer the engine they've got now. I think it'd be best to just stick with what works rather than reinvent the wheel, particularly since a lot of characters' classic moves and strategies never worked quite right when sidestepping was possible, and some of the new characters created for MK4 thru Armageddon had really dumb moves because they were created for a 3D engine but now have a chance to be redesigned with much better specials the way Quan Chi and Kenshi were.

2.5D.

It's perfect for MK and I wouldn't have it any other way now.

Another 2.5D supporter here!

Leave the 3D for adventure side-games.

I would go back to 3d for that type of game but a 2.5d game would be a great idea. And a good new start.

What is 2.5D?

Its either 2D (MK2011) or 3D (MKVDC).

I mean Injustice might be 2.5D at a push.

Yeah 2D. But I would kill for Shaolin Monks 2. Even Robocop.

I'd say for now, NRS should stick with 2D (gameplay-wise, not graphics-wise) fighting games. I wouldn't mind seeing a 2.5D (with the sidestepping stuff in MK vs. DC) fighting in a future game, and I think that even a 3D fighter (Shaolin Monks) style would be nice to see as its own game.

Didn't think a lot of you were gonna say 2.5, but I'm impressed. Me how many of you would refer that 3D stays with an adventure game.

Heh, I would agree with that.

I crave for the game in which we have adventure game about two characters (Scorpion & Sub-Zero or Mileena & Kitana when they were under Kahn or even single character adventure,I don't care, maybe even new protagonists for all I care) with a GOOD story and fantastic gameplay. Kinda Shaolin Monks with awesome dialogues and decent plot...

I would buy that in a heartbeat. But looking at the last MK games, story part is becoming problematic in some cases...

id like nrs to make a fantastic 3d mk. but with the success of mk brought back to its 2d glory I doubt it happen. wonder if nrs did make a 3d mk game along the lines of tekken, virtu fighter, soul calibur but everything mk. blood, fatality's, everything else mk is known for. it be amazing. look a lot more realistic to. at least the character models.

Apologies for sounding dumb, but was "MK" 2011 2D or 2.5D? Regardless, I think the gameplay style from the last one suits "MK" the most. However, I've seen some really cool videos from the "Injustice" game, where the characters are able to interact with the background and the perspective sort of shifts around them at certain points. I wouldn't mind that kind of style for the next game, which I guess is a possibility...

I want an adventure game following the 3 female ninjas.

I agree! It's about time some of the female characters took center stage in an "MK" game. Most of them are popular throughout the fandom, but so rarely do they get the main spot.

I think it should stay 2D, and improve on the MK9 engine. They've had success coming back to its roots and the gameplay is a lot smoother now that they don't have to worry about the 3rd dimension.

Btw I don't understand what is 2.5D exactly.

It's the phrase for when the characters are 3D/polygonal rather than 2D sprites, but the camera is fixed in a 2D way with no sidestepping.

Oh so like MK9 and SFIV. Then yeah I'd stick with that engine.
